U13 Grand Final Result & Match Report

U13 Comets: St Kilda City 6.9 (45) def Ajax 4.1 (25)

Goals: Berlinski 2, Velleman, Williams

Best: J.Bassat, M. Bassat, Berlinski, Carp, Teperman, Shnider

Match report: We got off to a great start today kicking the first two goals and dominating the early part of the game. From about the ten minute mark of the first quarter St Kilda City started to show what a good side they were. They pretty much dominated the rest of the game and the score board was a little flattering for us. Our kids really fought hard and should be proud of their efforts today and for the entire season. Unfortunately we were beaten by a better team today. A huge thank you to our dedicated coaches Freedy and Luke as well as Stuey early in the season. The kids have learnt lots and enjoyed a successful year of footy. On behalf of Adam and Tony we would like to thank the parent group. We never had a problem getting volunteers to help out when needed and really appreciate the assistance. Thanks also to our trainers during the year Neil, Dave and Barry. We now look forward to 2013.

U16’s Preliminary Final Result & Match Report

U16’s: Dingley 8.7 (55) def Ajax 7.5 (47)

Goals: Kaplan 2, Rosenthal 2, Schwartz 2, Herszberg

Best: De Winter, Marom, Rosenthal, Silver, Velleman, Zeilinski

Match report: After a first quarter of even matched game came a second quarter where lapse of concentration resulted in Dingley opening a leading margin that our boys were not able to completely overcome. An excellent third and fourth quarters saw the boys showing determination and fighting spirit with the margin dropping to only 8 points by the end of the game. Well done boys, all parents attending this and all previous games appreciate the effort you’ve put into this game.

AJAX FC NEWSLETTER ROUND 16 V OLD IVANHOE

teskacarson AJAX “Hoe” into Old

Ivanhoe by Peter Kagan

Following a President's lunch sponsored by Michael Roth, celebrating the 1966/67 rivalry with Old Ivanhoe, AJAX took on the "old" foe at Albert Park in wet conditions.

Marcus Jankie led the team out celebrating his 150

th game. The

visitors began quickly posting the first 2 goals. Evgeni Routman had started extremely well back on the wing. His run and endeavour was inspirational. He chased a player, tackled, forced the turnover, passed to Marcus Jankie, who handballed to captain Gary Blieden, back to a running Routman for a long point. The backline was playing loose, knowing they were playing the bottom side. From a boundary throw in Jason Samuel tapped ball to Jankie who kicked the first goal. Blieden out of the muddy centre, kicked long to David Fayman who handballed to Nadav Harel and AJAX was in front. Warren Steinberg picked up a loose ball for another goal. Brad Caplan intercepted a pass, sent the ball to Rubin Winograd, for a long kick to the goal square where Fayman snapped a goal. The Jackas were starting to lift and play good footy. A chain of passes from Routman to Winograd to

long kick to Jake Lew where he converted for his first. Josh Sacks, then got ball, kicked to Routman who passed to Steinberg for a "checkside" kick and goal.

Caplan to Harel to Samuel then to Jason Tendler for a great passage and goal. Adam Caplan trapped the ball at half back, ran along wing with 3 bounces. His

The 2 AJAX forwards had now kicked 92 goals between them, and each of them had missed 3 games each during the season.

Lack of discipline in the backline gave the opposition a 25 metre penalty and late goal prior to the first break.

Lew took a great contested mark but missed. OI kicked a goal off the ground as AJAX defenders did not rush the ball through. Jankie to Lew for another great mark, this time his long kick was converted. OI then kicked another goal off ground from goal square. Bernie was tearing what little hair he had out!!Adam Trytell and Lew then missed easy shots. Sacks and Blieden and Jankie were tackling well, but the Jackas were not converting their opportunities. Jarryd Ludski tackled well swooped on the loose ball and found Lew to mark and goal for his third. Trytell then made up for his earlier miss, and kicked a great running goal. Routman then snapped a great goal before the main break.

The next 2 weeks of the 2012 season will determine how good AJAX is against 2 of the top 4 teams in B Grade, and will be a litmus test for next year.

The reserves started well in the first quarter but failed to capitalise on their start losing by 11 points in the 100

th game

by Ash Moss.

At the start of the 3rd

quarter Winograd, Steinberg and Jankie were winning the ball out of the centre. Jesse Osowicki then passed to Harel, who handballed to Routman and goaled. Lew then took a great mark and kicked along goal. OI replied quickly. Then another terrible turnover and OI had another. Trytell to Lew for a goal and a free kick to Fayman in goal square for another. Adam Caplan then repeated his earlier 'show" with 3 bounces down same wing his long kick finding Lew for his 5th. Fayman then kicked another. OI responded twice.

At the final break Coach Bernie Sheehy told his players: "that they were not tight enough around the ball, and that their energy levels were down. OI had kicked too many easy goals. Stronger opponents would take advantage of that." He insisted on a good and strong last quarter. Lew was given an obvious free kick for his 6th goal. Blieden found Steinberg and his left foot pass to a running Fayman for his 4th. OI kicked next the 2 goals showing they were not giving up. Lew then intercepted the wall, and running away from the goals turned around and snapped a great goal over his shoulder his 7th! On the siren Steinberg marked in goal square for another goal.

OFFICIAL ANNOUCEMENT

AJAX SENIORS COMES HOME

Forty years of AJAX junior Australian Rules football will be celebrated at Princes Park on Saturday, 1 September 2012,at a Community Day to be staged by the AJAX football club.

The day will feature an Auskick clinic, and a junior grid match during the break between the main games- the AJAX seniors and reserves teams playing their final games of the 2012 season against Beaumaris. It will mark the first time the AJAX senior sides will have played senior home games in the heart of Glen Eira, at the same home ground of the junior teams .

The AJAX Junior Football Club was founded in 1972 and in the 40 years since, thousands of Jewish boys and many girls have worn the AJAX jumper and represented their community while playing Australia's national sport-Aussie Rules Footy.. AJAX Football Club thanks the Council of Glen Eira for granting permission for the senior club to play the matches at Princes Park on 1/9. The Councillors felt the local community deserved to see the Jewish community's football senior teams play their footy at the same home ground as the AJAX juniors, within the Municipality of Glen Eira- in which the largest Rb of Jewish residents live. This will be a true community day and will allow the senior teams to promote and showcase themselves and to encourage junior players to continue their football with AJAX. The pathway between the two levels of footy must remain seamless and continuous.

The Community Day football will also allow members of the local Jewish community who do not drive on Shabbat, or find Albert Park too far,but are still passionate about their footy, and who rarely get the opportunity to support their Jewish footy club, to walk to Princes Park and enjoy a game of high-level amateur VAFA football.

The AJAX Football Club looks forward to showcasing its senior players in front of a large crowd at one of the best suburban football venues in Melbourne.

The Auskick clinic is planned to be held on the main oval at Princess Park in the morning. Full details will be disclosed in coming weeks. The reserves game will start at 11.20am, with the senior match at 2pm.There will also be a grid match between 2 junior teams during the interval of the main senior games.
