Paul Newman started acting at age seven when his mother suggested the idea. His first play being Robin Hood and his second being A Broadway Production of Picnic, which was his day of recognition. During Picnic Paul met his future wife, Joanne Woodward, who was an understudy at the time.

In high school, after getting kicked off the football team, Paul turned to acting. He played a court jester at age seven in Robin Hood which started his acting life. Paul believed that football was his future but after leaving football did he realize that acting was his passion and future.

Some movies Paul Newman starred or directed were Cool Hand Luke, The Sting, The Hustler, The Color of Money, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Hombre, The Silver Chalice, and The Death of Billy the Kid.

Paul Newman was nominated for Best Actor in 1958, 1961, 1963,

1967, 1981, 1982, 1194, and 2002. He won the award Best

actor in 1986 from his character in The Color of Money. Newman also received one Emmy award, after being nominated for four.

Paul Newman won the Golden Globe award three times. He

also received a Cecil B. DeMille award in 1984, at age 59.He was also nominated for 10 awards at the Oscars, and he later won an

Honorary Award and a Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.

When producing, he was nominated for Best Picture from

the movie Rachel, Rachel in 1969, a year after the movie

came out. He won his last award, a Golden Globe award, two years before he passed away in 2008.

Paul Newman also had his own salad dressing brand. The name of the salad dressing is Newman’s Own. It started out when he gave his homemade salad dressing to neighbors as presents. “It started out as a joke and got out of control.” -Paul Newman

In December of 1949 Paul Newman married Jackie Witte. They had 2 daughters together ,Stephanie and Susan Kendall, and 1 son, Scott Newman. In 1958 they divorced because he fell in love with another woman, Joanne Woodward.

In January of 1958 Paul married his second wife, Joanne Woodward. These two had 3 daughters, Elinor, Teresa, and Claire. They were married until Paul died in 2008.

In 1978 Scott Newman, son of Paul Newman and Jackie Witte, died of drug overdose. In return for Scott’s death, Paul created a foundation named the Scott Newman Center.

He did this to prevent substance abuse in education.
