I am so proud of all 43 of our local PTAs in Frisco, especially our newer/first year PTAs: Early Childhood School, Cobb, Hunt, Purefoy, Maus, and Sonntag. Also, special congratulations to our newest PTA: Frisco Trails Mon- tessori. You provide support, education, and serve our children and commu- nity with joyous hearts. I appreciate the time and commitment of each local PTA President, their board, and their members. No one really knows how many volunteer hours that your boards have put in over the past year to make your PTA what it is today. I started thinking what kind of impact does PTA have in Frisco and this is my estimate. We have 43 PTAs, over 16,000 members; we have brought in over 240 programs and have had a $2 million dollar impact to the needs of our children and schools. Everything you do matters. Whether you choose to read to a classroom, serve as a cafeteria helper, make copies, or shelve library books, the way you sup- port the education process is not important. What is important is that you take the step and volunteer. PTA truly makes a difference and helps to “make every child’s potential a reality” I hope in the years to come that we can all look back and say that we all made an impact on a child‘s life. I would also like to recognize my outstanding Council board for this year. They have worked very hard this year to provide support and assistance. I could not do my job successfully without them. Special and sincere thanks to: Kindra Strachan, Melanie Crobsy, Brandy Dennison, Debi Meuret, Karen Adolff, Kelly Straub, Susan Thomas, Keisha Sylvester, Tanja Eltze, Mary Ba- risa, Willette Watts, Lindsey Bianchin, Linda Linton, Terri West, Shelley Ke- sel, Kristan Olfers, and Gavin Copeland. Thank you for letting me serve as your Council President for the last 2 years! Wishing you all a fun and safe Summer! Anne McCausland President Frisco ISD Council of PTAs

Frisco ISD Council of PTAs Annual Report for 2010-2011

Frisco ISD Council of PTAs started off its 10th year with officers Anne McCausland (President), Kindra Strachan (Aide to President), Melanie Crosby (Secretary) and Brandy Dennison (Treasurer).

Anne attended Council Presidents training in May, Anne and Kindra attend the National PTA conference in June, and Anne, Kindra, Melanie, and Susan Thomas attended summer seminar in July.

The September Council meeting featured speaker from the Shawnee Trail Cycling Club and AIM Insurance. Septem-ber also brought several trainings; three Leadership Orientation Trainings on September 22, September 28, and Octo-ber 14 and several chairman trainings. The Frisco ISD Council of PTAs was awarded Gold level award for Out-standing Council from Texas PTA for 2009-2010. The Council also adopted their goals for 2010-2011:

    • Develop and foster closer relationships with surrounding councils and units without a council.

    • Provide opportunities for local units to partner on programs, fundraising and other common activities.

    • Provide leadership training and support to all local units.

    • Develop and foster closer community inclusiveness with other diverse learning population through our SAGE campus chair.

October was the Council’s annual community environmental reuse program of Barktoberfest, where we ask the local PTAs to collect gently used pet items for the Frisco Human Society; over 2,100 items were collected. The October Council meeting featured Ellen Arnold, from Texas PTA who gave a legislative report on the upcoming legislative session that starts in January 2011.

December brought reflection entries pouring through the door with 1,644 entries at the local level, 3271 coming to the council level, and 19 entries were selected to go to Texas PTA for judging.

The January Council meeting featured Heather Ashwell-Hair, Parent Education Program Chair from Texas PTA. Heather presented and discussed the many free programs that are available to our local PTAs from Texas PTA. In February Anne, Kindra, Melanie, and Susan traveled to Austin for PTA Day at Capital and for State Convention. Our March Council meeting brought the election of the 2011-2012 Council Board, Kindra Strachan (President), Susan Thomas (Aide to President), Ginger Tarbet (Secretary) and Melanie Crosby (Treasurer). Susan Thomas was also hon-ored with the Texas PTA Lifetime Membership award. The Corbell PTA President, Kathy Mecom presented how to conduct your own Fun Run. The Frisco Trails Montessori School became our 43rd PTA in the Frisco Council. April brought our Lifetime Member-ship banquet that was held at Liberty High School with 45 honorees. Frisco has a total of 16,093 members, with an increase of seven percent membership with 42 PTAs. May brought our annual Officer and Chairman training that was held at Tadlock on May 3rd with over 125 in atten-dance. This month the council held its annual fundraiser with the Roughriders game on May19th with awards going to the most spirited (Sonntag), most tickets sold (Fisher), and the loudest school (Rogers). With the funds raised from last year’s game the council was able to give out five $500 dollars scholarships to FISD seniors. We are also able to start an endowment fund with $2,500 towards $10,000 for scholarships to deserving High School Seniors. In addition, we were able to start a Training Scholarship to help fund attendance of PTAs to attend Summer Leadership Seminar in Austin. Two Leadership Orientation Trainings were held with 65 local chairs being trained.

During the year we had five newsletters published, five Regular meetings and seven Board meetings.

Frisco ISD Council of PTAs 2010-2011 Goals

    • Develop and foster closer relationships with surrounding councils and units without a council. Result: The Frisco Council extended the opportunity for LOT training classes to all Areas 15 Councils and

independents. We also invited our independents to attend our Regular meetings. Lastly, we partnered with the

McKinney Council to bring Ellen Arnold up to Area 15 to provide a legislative update.

    • Provide opportunities for local units to partner on programs, fundraising and other common activities.

Result: The Council provided an avenue through emails, LHH, and roundtables for our Local PTAs to share

ideas and partner. We also had the Corbell PTA present at the March Council meeting to describe how they

    conduct their own Fun Run.

    • Provide leadership training and support to all local units.

Result: The Frisco Council hosted 6 Leadership Orientation classes, a Roundtable session in May, and con-

ducted officer and chair specific training in the Fall.

    • Develop and foster closer community inclusiveness with other diverse learning population through our

    SAGE campus chair.

Result: The Frisco Council is in its third year of supporting SAGE. We are trying to grow the Council’s in-

volvement and support of our Special Education and Gifted & Talented community. We have made some pro-

gress but we still are working with our community, FISD, and our local PTAs to move closer to this goal.

Happy 10th Birthday Frisco ISD Council of PTAs!

The Frisco ISD Council of PTA was organized on May 22, 2001 thanks to foresight and

initiative of Laura Ellison (current FISD School Board member). There were only 9 PTAs

at that time. Cindy DePaolantonio agreed to step into this new adventure and serve as

the first Council President. Here is a brief snap shot of years of Presidential leadership

    of the Council:

    2001-2003 - Cindy DePaolantonio

    2003 - Leslee Boyd

    2003-2004 - Brenda Polk

    2004-2006 - Rich Kinnunen

    2006-2007 - Nicole Rodgers

    2007 - Shona Simmons

    2007-2009 - Brenda Richard

    2009-2011 - Anne McCausland

We owe much gratitude and thanks to our past Presidents and Council board members. It

is due to their leadership and our leaders at the Local PTAs that we can celebrate 10

years of Making Every Child’s Potential a Reality. Thank you for your service!

Dear PTA Council, As we close out one school and begin looking toward the next we extend congratulations to the newly elected President for the Council of PTAs Kindra Strachan and her team. The council plays a vital role in its partner-ship with FISD as it helps us to offer the best quality education possible for our children. The PTA council has produced strong leaders, some of whom have moved up to serve on the council Board while others have demonstrated willingness to run for office on the FISD school board. I salute the council for being a place where future leaders are nurtured and can excel. It is because of the strong influence of PTA Council and our campus PTAs that I am encouraging each of you to band together with educators and parents to support pro-public education policies and initiatives at the state and national levels. I also ask that as individuals we all look hard at our local, state and national leaders to see where they stand on public education. We know that public education can and does work, so we must let our voices be heard. There are a multitude of exciting stories coming out of Frisco schools – students who are ex-celling in various areas, teachers who regularly go the extra mile, and principals who model outstanding leader-ship. Frisco is not failing. But we have to have support from the community and our politicians in order to maintain our high standards. Your advocacy and activism can make the state legislature listen. Because of the current issues with state funding, the FISD Board of Trustees has approved cost saving measures to help us respond to the lack of such funding. FISD has a commendable record of fiscal responsibility, and I am hopeful that we will not have to see a reduction in force in the coming school year. The FISD school board has approved moving the TRS active care plan for employee health insurance for the coming school year. This will ultimately save the district about $2.8 million. The board approved having SROs working with two middle schools instead of one to save $225,000. In addition the district will move forward with plans to implement tri-ple route busing and to share one School Resource Officer between two middle schools. FISD can also save $525,000 by having schools start and end at three distinct times instead of two, so that buses can run three routes instead of two. The savings comes in having fewer routes. In addition, the district will save money by not having to add buses for at least two-three years. In order to accomplish triple routing, school start and end times will be adjusted by 10-20 minutes for next year. The school start and end times will be as follows:

    Elementary – 7:50 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. Middle School – 8:25 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. High School – 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

These measures, coupled with your outreach and community support, will help us channel resources and ensure the continuation of FISD’s top-notch educational standards. If we exemplify the PTA ideals of teamwork and activism, we can continue to serve our children in the highest way possible. Sincerely, Rick Reedy Superintendent of Schools

. We could not have ordered a more beautiful day at Ashley Elementary for Field Day. The temperature was in the low 70s and the sun was shining! Coach Trimble worked hard to set up each of the stations orchestrating a highly organized day for parents, volunteers, and teachers. Students were divided into teams - the blue team, or the red team. There were sack races, water activities, games of tug-of-war and much, much more. The kids had a great day and went home happy, but tired. Thanks to every person who worked so hard to make the day a success!

Ashley Elementary PTA When students hear the words TAKS test, most of them end up nervous with butterflies in their stomachs. Ashley students sat in the cafeteria feeling that way, until they were pumped up by presenters Keith Davis and Randall Harris. Keith Davis, former NFL Giants football player, and Randall Harris, World Champion power lifter and gold medalist, told the kids get ready it’s “game time, you have to be in it to win it.” Keith Davis finished his time with the kids leav-ing them with these words of wisdom, “The aver-age NFL career lasts 3 years, but your education lasts forever. Giant dreamers are those that try their hardest every day. If you can look up, you can get up; champions don’t give up, they get up.”

Teacher Appreciation week was celebrated at Ashley Elementary during the week of May 2 - 6th. Our PTA's Teacher Appreciation Committee executed the week with unique ideas and events to shower our teachers with gratitude for all they do for our children every day of the school year! A luncheon was given for the staff to enjoy with an Italian theme the week before and was a big hit with the entire staff! Teacher Apprecia-tion week was kicked off with the staff arriving on campus to find the workroom filled with bas-kets for each "team" that were stuffed full of "wish list" items. Each day teachers received a special surprise. We secured volunteers to cover "Morning Duty" on Friday while the staff en-joyed breakfast and coffee provided by the PTA. Flowers and garden gloves were delivered to the staff to close out the week that day as well. Each team was afforded the opportunity to enjoy an off campus lunch while volunteers cov-ered their classes during recess, lunch and a short time in the classroom. PTA has already received so many heartfelt thank you and notes of appre-ciation for all we did for them. It really was the least we could do to show how much we care

    about our teachers.

Bledsoe Elementary PTA It’s hard to believe that the year is winding down so quickly! We have had quite the fun filled and eventful year at Bledsoe. In February, we celebrated the hard work of our creative students who participated in this year’s Reflec-tions Competition. We had 62 students partici-pate with a total of 101 entries in Literature, Musical Composition, Photography and Visual Arts. 19 entries advanced resulting in 7 Honor-able Mentions, 5 Awards of Merit and 1 Award of Excellence. Congratulations to all of our students!

Our Spring Book Fair was a huge hit and far exceeded our revenue expectations! The theme was Book Fair Carnival and students donated $217.07 in proceeds towards McLaughlin & Strickland Intermediate School in Farmers Branch for their lending library.

We have had many fun and educational pro-grams at Bledsoe this year. Our students have enjoyed science in the classroom with the High Touch High Tech program. Each classroom had a 90 minute hands-on science program and learned about topics ranging from the ocean to extreme weather. Our students also had the opportunity to learn about West African music and culture during our Rhythm Path drum circle program. This was such a wonderful night for the students who attended the drum circle. Each student and par-ent had their own drum to play and participants worked as a team to build the facilitated rhythms

During Friendship Week, one of our favorite performers, ventriloquist Dennis Lee, came to the school to teach us about Believing, Becom-ing, Belonging and Behaving with his new show B-Creek. The students loved all of Mr Lee's great new puppets and learned a lot about the 6-Pillars of good character as well. Our last program of the year was a very spirited TAKS encouragement program by the Dallas Maverick's own Mavs Man. The students were thrilled by the Mavs Man's amazing slam dunk show. In addition they reviewed great test taking tips and were encouraged by Mavs Man to do their very best.

Bledsoe’s PTA and parents love our teachers and staff and so we showered them with affec-tion and pampering during Teacher Apprecia-tion Week – from Baskin Robbins Ice Cream Sundae Bar, to Sonic Drink Day, Barbecue Luncheon, Spa Day, and Candy Bar!

For our last Clean It and Green It Day, we had a total of 63 participants and collected 36 bags of trash! Then it was off to Ikea for fun festivities. Deuce made a surprise visit to Bledsoe to help promote Frisco School Spirit Night with the Frisco RoughRiders! Bledsoe’s students won most spirited recognition at last year’s Spirit Night and thus won the opportunity for Deuce to come visit.

Our 5th graders enjoyed their annual Track Meet Competition versus Rogers Elementary at Memorial Stadium.

Our first year of WatchDOGS was an incredible success with close to 200 dads participating! The dads are a wonderful addition to our cam-pus volunteers, are such a huge help to our teachers and staff and are loved by all the stu-dents!

In April, Bledsoe held its 4th Annual Spring Carnival fundraiser and Silent Auction. The weather cooperated for a beautiful day filled with inflatable's, pizza, barbecue sandwiches, ice cream, sandy candy, face painting, games, and Silent Auction. Thanks to our wonderful parents and sponsors, our carnival raised $11,400 towards achieving our goal of a new playground cover for our school! This goal has been 4 years in the making and credit also goes to the previous PTA Boards whose hard work

and effort coupled with the efforts of this year’s Board has resulted in a wonderful donation for our school! Construction of our new playground cover will happen during the summer with completion in time for the start of school in August!

Finally, we welcome our new 2011-2012 Bledsoe PTA Board Members. Liz Watkins-President; Tyra Damm-1st VP Membership; Melinda Wheeley-2nd VP Ways & Means; Julianne Amezcua-3rd VP Programs; Jenny Morgan-Treasurer; Kristin Cagle-Secretary; Tyler Brossart-Parliamentarian; Amy Austin-Historian; Mandy Graham-Council Delegate; Usha Correa & Jacque Alexander-Book Fair; Melissa Chavez-Cultural Arts; Tisha Muntz-Field Day; Jessica Albrecht-Hospitality; Ria Cannizzo-Newsletter; Stephanie Cockrill-Website; Tara Klein-Publicity; Bruny Papp-Community Partners; Zena Horton-Courtesy & Communication; Kris Brown-Room Parent Co-ordinator; Renee Sample-DI; JD Tomlin-WatchDOGS

Corbell Elementary PTA As we are finishing up the final weeks of school, the Corbell PTA is staying busy.

Our Spring Book Fair was a success because of our wonderful volunteers and support from the Corbell staff. Our sales totaled $13,185, allow-ing our teachers to purchase over 800 books. We also were able to donate $240 worth of books to the FISD Early Childhood School.

As we celebrated Teacher Appreciation week, our teachers and staff enjoyed a catered lunch, a Corbell umbrella, off campus lunch with their co-workers, and an overload of snacks to enjoy.

Corbell PTA would like to congratulate James Lowery, who received the Corbell Elementary PTA Scholarship at the Frisco Education Foun-dation’s Scholarship Night on May 12th. The Lowerys are a former Corbell family and James is a graduating Wakeland High School senior. The PTA is thrilled to bestow a financial award to James as he heads off to Oklahoma State

Lastly, another favorite activity provided by the PTA is the Corbell Talent show. “Corbell’s Got Talent” will showcase on May 26th. Nearly 100 students will participate in an audition, re-hearsal, and the final show. Our fourth annual talent show is a wonderful learning tool that builds character and self esteem.

The PTA will finish up on the last day of school with our end of year parties. Students will enjoy games, crafts, water blasters, dunk tanks, snow cones, and all kinds of fun for everyone.

Well wishes go out to our 5th graders as they venture on to Middle School. And we look forward to meeting some new kindergarteners and seeing our returning families on August 19th for Meet the Teacher night.

Elliott Elementary PTA Is it really May already? I don’t know about you, but this has been the FASTEST year of my life! I hope that 2010-2011 was as great a year for you as it was for us. The Elliott PTA has had a year full of successes and learning experi-ences and we look forward to making next year even better.

We received multiple membership awards from

Texas PTA, had record breaking fundraisers and

book fairs this year, and enjoyed overwhelming

attendance at our events and meetings – all

thanks to the families of Elliott Elementary.

Our community is truly one of a kind. In fact,

the entire Frisco ISD seems to come together

whenever possible and I am so proud to be part

of FISD. Speaking of the FISD family, we at

Elliott would like to thank the wonderful

Mooneyham PTA for lending us some great

Elliott Elementary PTA con’t In April, we all gathered in our courtyard on a perfect Spring evening and enjoyed Toy Story 3 at our Outdoor Movie Night. This was our 2nd such event we plan to make it part of our Fall and Spring every year. Programs brought Keith Davis out to motivate our students as they pre-pared to take their TAKS tests. He was a big hit as always! We also held our elections for 2011-2012 at our April PTA meeting. We are excited to introduce the 2011-2012 Elliott PTA board in our upcoming Elliott PTA newsletter and on our website (www.elliottpta.com). I know that I speak for the entire board when I say that we are ready to serve!

We honored Paige Whitecotton as our Lifetime Member Recipient this year. Paige was our founding President and served 2 terms. This year she served as our 2nd Vice President of Ways and Means while also serving as Member-ship Chair at Scoggins. She is always ready with a smile wherever help is needed and we appreciate her so much. Thanks for everything, Paige!

We are about to finish out this year with our End of the Year Celebration on May 26th. Fes-tivities will include food, games, music and bounce houses. Also, our Room Parent Com-mittee will also be hosting the End of Year Class Parties on June 2nd.

I would like to thank the 2010-2011 board for all of their efforts and dedication this year. It has been a pleasure to serve with each one of them. I am so thankful for the honor of serving as the Elliott PTA President, and I look forward to serving again next year. With that, I wish you all a wonderful and safe summer.

Pink Elementary PTA Pink Elementary PTA and families had an amazing year. We want to thank every person who involved themselves in our school and our students.

We are busy planning for our end of the year classroom parties and our upcoming Field Days for the students.

On March 25th, we had our 4th Annual Western Hoe Down. The weather was beautiful and the families came by to enjoy some food, drinks, games & bull riding.

Some of the things our PTA and parents have worked together to achieve this year include purchasing 4 basketball post protector pads, 17 Ipods and covers for the classrooms, supplies for the teaching learning centers, and desk or-ganizers for 5th grade. We also sent the 5th grad-ers to see “African Cats” and updated the school outdoor landscaping, as well as some interior improvements including motivational posters

    for the hallways.

We focused our priorities this year on providing programs for the students and hosting less fam-ily fun nights at a few different places. Our family fun partners include Spring Creek BBQ, WOGA Gymnastics, Kurt Thomas Gymnastics and Main Event. Having only a few nights scheduled at these locations made it easier for our families to support us & in turn we were more successful than ever. We provided our students with 9 different programs this year that focused more on the grade level. Our program partners included High Touch/ High Tech, High Flyers, Mark Kistler and Brian Burns.

At Pink, we can’t say enough how important our parents and their involvement is to our school and our students. We have a wonderful support group and without their help, our PTA would not be successful. The 2010-2011 school year has been great, and the 2011-2012 school year

    will be even better.

Purefoy Elementary PTA This year has flown by…after lots of fun and

hard work, we are ready for summer. There

have been lots of events at Purefoy this spring.

Our Spring Book Fair was more successful that

we could have ever hoped for. Thank you Mary

Barisa for coordinating such a fun and profitable

event. Your team did an awesome job!

Congratulations go out to Sai Senapathy! Sai

was awarded the Award of Excellence at the

State level in the Reflections program. We are

very proud of you Sai. We would also like to

    recognize and congratulate Cindy Badon.

Cindy has served as our Volunteer Coordinator

as well as our SAGE Chairman. She has done

an outstanding job in both roles. For her dedica-

tion and compassion, Cindy was honored this

year as our recipient of the PTA Lifetime

Achievement Award. Thank you Cindy for all

    you do.

April brought many smiling Dads and students

to campus as they shared Donuts with Dads.

And in turn, May brought with it, all of our Moms as we enjoyed Muffins with Moms. Both events provided a great time for our Purefoy families to share. We also celebrated our amazing teachers this month with Teacher Appreciation Week. The teachers were treated to a catered lunch from La Hacienda, sweet treats, time to enjoy lunch off campus and much more. Thank you to all our teach-ers, our school blossoms because of you.

Finally, thank you to our PTA Board for the

2010-2011 School Year. Our Inaugural year

as been quite successful and we thank you for

all your hard work. We also wish the best to

our incoming Board members for the 2011-

    2012 School Year! Happy Summer!!!

Pink students, parents and staff at Rachel’s Rally! Way to go Pink!

Purefoy parents and students really enjoyed the Read-A-Coaster Book Fair .

Rogers Elementary PTA Our success as a PTA continues because of our general membership! We have had a great year of Fundraising with our Boosterthon Fun Run, Family Fun Nights which included two dances and wonderful Educational Day Programs with authors and trips around the world. The Rogers Elementary PTA is proud to say that we have been able to give back to our school in so many ways this year. Our successful Fun Run allowed us to fund all of the Campus Enrich-ment Proposals. These items included new sup-plies for Art, additional bell chimes for our Rogers Ringers, new PE and Field Day equip-ment, Scholastic Magazine subscriptions for 2nd and 5th grade. Math Puzzles and Problem Solv-ing Kits for Kinder-5th grades, Play-Aways (books on tape) to increase our library to 50 titles, and a classroom set of iPod touches al-lowing students to engage in learning using the latest innovation in technology. Each of these items will help enrich the educational experi-ence at Rogers Elementary!

Our Box Top Clippin Competition was a suc-cess with 23,923 Box Tops collected throughout the year. 15,032 Campbell’s labels were also collected and with points earned from each of these programs, we were able to “purchase” (6) Playground Balls, a Karaoke machine, (6) Jump Ropes, (6) 8.5” Balls, (2) Basketballs and a Label Collection Bin. Our Free Money Queen made an appearance at each of our Good Morn-ing Rogers events and gave away prizes to our Top-Box Top clippin' students! We will con-tinue our push for Box Tops, Campbell’s and Tyson label collection throughout the summer, free money is always good!

Our Environmental and Youth Safety chairs collaborated during the week of April 18th-22nd to put on our Walk to School Week where we saw double the amount of walkers cross the intersection at Rogers/Fisher, on Thursday, April 21 we had 270 walkers. For Clean It-Green It on April 30th we had 80+ volunteers come out to help clean up our school grounds. The recycling efforts of the Rogers Green Team along with our PTA have propelled us to the top FISD school in collecting and recycling. We will finish our environmental impact for the year by collecting shoes for The Shoe Bank to distribute to recent tornado and flooding victims in the United States.

Throughout the year, the PTA has also hosted and sponsored a Grandparents Luncheon, Breakfast with Dads, two Book Fairs, Teacher Appreciation Week, Student Banking, Song Fest pianist, Field Day coordinated volunteers to help with the many Rogers Elementary School activities and honored kindergarten teacher

Suzanne Gilbert for a PTA Lifetime Award.

Lastly, our PTA was proud to present two scholarships to former Rogers Elementary students at the Frisco Education Foundation Scholarship Night. Deserving Seniors, Sara Kimmich and Jaime Ohm were each given a $500 scholarship. Our fundraising efforts over many years have allowed us to set up this endowed scholarship that will continue to be given each year.

Thanks again for a great year! It was an honor

to serve as PTA president alongside a great

group of teachers and parent volunteers!
