Our libraries really do have something for everyone, and no matter what you “geek,” you’re sure to find something at our libraries that helps you grow that passion for that subject. Geek the Library features local educational material that introduces “geek” as a verb, and encourages the public to talk about what they “geek”—whether it’s engineering, superheroes or art. e public awareness campaign illustrates the fact that everyone is passionate about something—everyone “geeks” something— and that the library supports them all. In just this newsletter alone, you’ll find several upcoming library programs that will help you explore the topics you’re most interested in. Lafayette Parish residents are about to add a new verb to their vocabulary: “geek.” When used as a verb, to “geek” something means to be passionate about it and to want to learn more and do more because of it. We at the Lafayette Public Library System want everyone to “geek” our libraries as much as we do, which is why we are joining the nationwide Geek the Library campaign. This community‐based public awareness campaign highlights what people are passionate about and how libraries can support those passions. Our libraries really do have something for everyone, and no matter what you “geek,” you’re sure to find something at our libraries that helps you grow that passion for that subject.

Geek the Library features local educational material that introduces “geek” as a verb, and encourages the public to talk about what they “geek”—whether it’s engineering, superheroes or art. Newest library service can help you save on your electricity bill!Ever wonder how much a particular appliance or electronic device affects your energy bill? You can now find out with Kill A WattTM meters available at all Lafayette Public Library locations. These meters are provided by Lafayette Utilities System (LUS) and help residents and small business owners determine electric consumption and estimate costs associated with certain appliances in their homes or buildings.

The Kill A WattTM meter works with most small- to medium-sized appliances. Simply plug the meter into any regular outlet and plug the appliance into the meter. The meter will then estimate the cost of using that electrical device for an hour, a day, a week, a month and a year. The longer you keep the device plugged into the meter, the more accurate the estimate will be. You must have a library card to check out the meters or place a hold at LafayettePublicLibrary.org.

Test results with strategies and tips will be presented by the Princeton Review during the score back session. My Eye Photography’s Kerry Griechen relishes the opportunity to share his unique

perspective on life’s visual treasures. From childhood, Griechen has viewed

everyday scenes as a study in composition, constantly striving to find the visual balance

between people, objects and nature. Born and raised in Southwest Michigan, Griechen moved to

this area nearly 20 years ago and has become mesmerized by the sheer beauty of the natural swamplands, Acadiana and New Orleans. His images have garnered local, national and international accolades and awards for his unique ability to record a moment in time and deftly apply it to the world of art.
