FY 17 DISTRICT BUDGET

Three main questions we have answered this week when dealing with the State’s potential budget impasse continuing deep into FY 17:

• Will we open school in August? Yes

• Will we be able to stay open for the entire 2016-2017 school year? No

• Why are we different than our neighbors? The answer is based on how the four main factors in the General State Aid formula work based on the numbers as they pertain to District 205. The simple answer is we are heavily dependent on General State aid and some of our neighbors are not as dependent on GSA.

FINAL THOUGHTS

As we think about building the house that we need to live in to move this district from good to great, please keep in mind the following:

It will take all of us working together to build this house.

There must be a sense of urgency to complete the work that will be needed to get this house built.

There is room at the table for everyone who wishes to help build this house. Ideas and suggestions on how to fill the rooms will be welcome.

When we engage in open, honest discussion, please know that I hear every word that is said but that sometimes, “No” has to be the answer to a request.

We do value your opinion and your expertise.

FINAL THOUGHTS

• We must build this house if our District is going to survive and thrive.

• Please know that we want you to be a part of this exciting new venture but at the same time, we recognize that this may not be what some of you signed up for.

• Think back to your second year of teaching. It was so much better than your first. My pledge to you is to make our second year together better than the first.

HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!!
