Move over ABBA, here comes our Guy
GUY Sebastian has hinted hisnod to Australiana for 2015Eurovision could be the hum-ble “flanno” shirt.
Named as the first Austra-lian contestant for the world’sbiggest song contest in Vienna,Adelaide raised Sebastian hasdiscounted the classic suit forhis Eurovision uniform, prefer-ring a more urban vibe.
“It might involve flanno. It’svery Australian,” he said.
And he just couldn’t pull offa beard and a dress like lastyear’s winner, Austrian dragsuperstar Conchita Wurst.
Sebastian pre-empted thedissenters by invoking that re-vered pop philosopher TaylorSwift, saying “haters gonnahate, hate, hate”.
He also shot down anyspeculation this was a “calcu-lated career move” insisting hewould pick the song which bestrepresented his vocal talents
and give Australia a shot atwinning.
His first choice was a pre-vious Australia-only single GetAlong but rules dictate the en-trant’s song cannot have beenreleased before September
2014. Sebastian has just fivedays to decide on the powerballad from his album Mad-ness, released in November tore-record and shoot a video.
There are a few big vocaloptions on the record which
haven’t been released as sin-gles, with closing track ThePause having potential.
Sebastian revealed he foundout he was a contender to rep-resent Australia when a matefound him listed in a form
guide on a betting agency site.“I wasn’t even the favourite.
I think it was Samantha Jadeand Jess Mauboy,” he said.
SBS have campaigned forthe past four years to furtherAustralia’s involvement in Eu-
rovision — despite obviouslynot being a part of Europe.
The organisers were nodoubt amused at our fasci-nation with this often cheesydisplay of kitsch, with SBSmanaging director MichaelEbeid suggesting they prob-ably said yes so we would stopannoying them.
But director of Australia’scoverage of the event PaulClarkes, is taking it all very se-riously now.
“We want to win. We wantto win Eurovision and Guy iscapable of winning. Serbia wonthe first year they competed in2007,” Clarke said.
“He’s a great songwriter, there’s so much depth to hissongs and the ones we haveshort-listed have real gran-deur... we want tingles.”
SBS will broadcast the semi-finals and finals from Viennain May live from 5am so Aus-tralian fans can vote, as well asproducing packages for even-ing viewing.

Hans’ secrets to Eurovison success revealed
SO my little Adelaide darlingGuy is finally facing his Wa-terloo, heading to Vienna torepresent Australia for thefirst time in the EurovisionSong Contest.
While I’m still reeling
from the news that it wasn’tmy name announced, I feelit’s my duty as Adelaide’spremier European voice, topass on my years of Eurovi-sion wisdom.
Song choice is obviously abig part of every Eurovisionsuccess. Most winning tunessound like they were written10 years ago so Guy shouldn’thave any problems with that.Have you heard his songDon’t Worry Be Happy?
The thing that does worryme is his costuming.
Guy, honey, may I suggesta “reveal”. Think Bucks Fizzwhipping off their skirts halfway through their winningMaking Your Mind Up in 1981or ABBA’s famous short catkimonos underneath theirlong kimonos.
I also know you don’t real-ly like to show off your dancemoves. This comes to an endtoday. I have signed you upfor Jazz and Tap classes, but ifthis is too much, at least winkat the camera five times dur-ing your performance.
I know you have a beauti-ful voice, but instrumentallyyou need to get a little moreethnic. So, I am willing to joinyou on the night with my ac-cordion.
And to everyone who hasa problem with Guy compet-ing, just think, it could havebeen Delta Goodrem!WHILE YOU WON’T SEE HANS ONEUROVISION, YOU CAN CHECKOUT HIS FINAL ADELAIDE FRINGESHOW HANS: IN DAS HAUS THISMONDAY, 7PM, AT THE ARORASPIEGELTENT
