update Dear Parents & Carers,
Our 2019 school year has had a busy start. Thanks to all members of the College community for your support College at our well attended Meet the Mentor/Teacher Evening in Week 3 and of our recent Whole School Professional Development Day last week. Staff worked with visiting Senior Years Team curriculum officers and colleagues from other local schools to ensure their learning plans and associated assessment tasks supported students to optimise their engagement and achievement in Stage 2 / Year 12 courses. Professional learning from this day will flow through to Year 10 and Stage 1 courses.
Thanks also to parent support at our College Council AGM. Parents Tanya White, Lauren Winter and Tanya Becker were elected to Council, joining continuing members Liz Hay, Janette Gunner. Belinda Harding is the staff representative, Fred Richardson continues as Invited member with Student Representative Council members sharing the role of representing students at monthly Council meetings. The next meeting is Tuesday March from 5:30pm in the conference room – parents are welcome to attend Council meetings.
Special thanks to College Council members who are not continuing – Steve Marshall (Chairperson for last two years), Tim Hay (Vice Chairperson for last two years) and Carrie Hughes (member of our Council for last three years and many other School Councils for over twenty years). All have made a significant contribution to College community, for which we are most grateful.
Work Completion Reports for all students are being posted home with this newsletter. These reports show whether students are up to date with completion and submission of their work and the standard achieved. Please discuss these with your child and contact your child’s mentor or subject teacher if you have any queries. Mentors are discussing these work completion reports with students, in their role of monitoring academic progress.
Special congratulations to Year 11 student Sean Xiao (pictured) who has been selected to join the 2019 Chief Minister’s Youth RoundTable, where he will collect the voice of local young people as he implements a project with other Youth RoundTable members aiming to improve the lives of Young Territorians. Sean was nominated by College staff & SRC. Congratulations Sean on your most worthy selection.

Maximising Attendance & Notifying Reasons for
Absences
We ask all parents and families to support their students in
maximising their attendance. Students missing classes should
only be occurring in the case of sickness, medical appointments
or for family reasons. SMS messages are sent home to show
absences from classes throughout the day. Where attendance
is not possible, we ask that parents notify the College as soon
as possible.
phone: 8958 5000 or SMS message 0427 134 122
Mobile phone expectations
Students have been reminded of our heading towards young
adult ‘behaviours’ in allowing students to bring mobile phones
to College and only use them during recess and lunch break
times. During class time, College expectations are that mobile
phones are to be away and on silent during class / lesson /
learning time, including change of lesson, unless the classroom
teacher has given specific instruction to utilise student phones
during learning activities.
Congratulations to our attendance award winners who have achieved outstanding attendance for the first month of the school year.

We aim to keep you all updated with what’s happening in and around our academy. Here’s what’s been happening so far:
Week 2:
We had the Imparja Cup all week, testing our blokes’ cricket skills in the Community Division. While the heat was a deterrent for many, the students who participated did a great job, especially because for most of them it was the first time playing competitive cricket. The Imparja Cup is a great community event and one Clontarf are proud to be a part of each year.
Wednesday morning trainings are picking up and we’re already seeing higher attendance rates at training, which is great.
Week 3:
The MAD (Making A Difference) Program started up and is on every Monday and Wednesday after school for the rest of the term. This program is run and delivered by Steve Gardiner at his boxing gym G Training on Elder St. The fellas get to exercise on the boxing bags and pads for 20 minutes before we sit down to talk about Respect, Resilience, Leadership and what they look and feel like to our students. Centralian Senior College has done a great job with Steve Gardiner to get this up and running after seeing some success with a similar program last year.
Football started up again with our first game against Yirara College on Tuesday after school. It was a great hit out, played at a
high pace and skill level but more importantly played with great sportsmanship. Yirara came back strong in the second half to
snatch the lead and win the game. We’re going to be very busy after school with the boxing and football on Monday, Tuesday
and Wednesday.
Tyson Carmody (Director), Cheyne Miles & David Thomas - Clontarf Academy
Week 4:
We held our Year 12 Leadership Camp on Thursday and Friday out at the Big 4 MacDonnell Range Caravan Park. During the camp, the fellas had sessions on their class timetables with Lucy and Anne, Clontarf end of year trips, Clontarf rego forms, what expectations are from a Clontarf point of view and how we will support them in partnership with the school through what will be a challenging year for them. It was great to see a high level of engagement from the fellas.

Some of our Year 12 students also volunteered to support Bradshaw Primary School’s ‘Bullying. No Way!’ day. The students cooked
600 sausages for the students, staff and families at Bradshaw. It was a great way to support a most worthwhile cause and continue
to make great relationships with the students and staff at Bradshaw. Vicki Trindle & Samantha Hill - Girls Academy
Centralian Senior College Girls Academy would like to welcome all the new and continuing students into our academy as well as
wishing our Year 12 students the best for this year. We would like to farewell and thank Nicolette (Sissy) Dunn for all her years
of dedication and great passion for the Girls Academy program. We would also like to welcome Vicki Trindle to the Girls Acade-
my as the Program Manager.
It is going to be an exciting 2019 at Girls Academy, already kicking the year off
with a Year 10 & 11 induction lunch as well as the Year 12 induction sleepover.
The students have also enjoyed the birthday cake for the months of January and
February. Currently our students are completing artwork during their contact
times to design a new academy shirt.
We would like to congratulate and encourage our students who have been
offered and started their traineeships this year, completing Certificate III in
Business and Community Studies. We also have 9 students participating in the
M.A.D Leadership Training Program with G-Training. This program is run after
school on Tuesdays and Thursdays and aims to build on the principles of respect,
discipline and boundaries. This program will run throughout the entire Term 1
and so far the young women participating in the program have been dedicated
and are really enjoying it.

Follow the Dream – Polly (Graham) Farmer Foundation.
It was exceptionally pleasing to witness the departure of Keiffer Clarke and
Kaylee Howard, both past Year 12 graduates from Centralian Senior College.
They were leaving for universities in Adelaide to continue their learning at
tertiary level. I think half of the people in the departure lounge were family
members giving them both a cheery, teary send-off.
Keiffer (graduated 2017) is heading to Flinders University and Kaylee (graduated
2018) will attend University of South Australia.
We wish these young women all the best! Their learning is moving into a new
mode as they each “Follow their Dream”.
On Tasty Treat Thursday last week, our Year 12 students
hosted 14 Follow the Dream students from Centralian
Middle School. I was stunned and amazed to learn that
the rice was cooked correctly and the ingredients were
indeed tasty. Matilda, Kendall and Barrie (assisted by Bill,
Wendall and Jo from Centralian Middle School) were the
acting master chefs in our first ever adventure into
creating Sushi. There were prawn, chicken plus tuna and
corn rolls with a selection of warm additives and fresh
vegetables.
Our intention was to share them far and wide but the
cooks had other ideas – some for the first time, enjoying
the seaweed sheet wrapped rice dish.
It is time to remind ALL Follow the Dream students of
their obligations, especially attendance at the Study
Centre. Talk to us if you have many demands on your after
school time, especially if you are doing after school
courses, attending Clontarf, Girls’ Academy or part time
work.

Stage 1 Integrated Learning students are setting up a market stall for the Alice Springs Beanie Festival. They need to make a whole lot of knitted / crocheted / felted goods over the next few months.
We're calling on the school community to see if anyone's got knitting and crocheting supplies they could part with. If you've got wool, knitting needles, crochet hooks etc that you'd like to donate to their project, please leave donations at reception or in my pigeon hole (Parker)
Thanks! Shele Parker - Integrated Learning Teacher
Big congratulations and a big thank you to 2018 Year 12 Music
student Claudia ViantBerg (pictured).
Claudia entered the VAMPtv Girls Drum it Up competition and
has won our school a brand new set of kit drums.
“What a star!” said VAMPtv’s Rodney Balaam.
“Her entry in the competition was outstanding, rock solid, intri-
cate, gutsy and powerful and with flair and finesse."
Claudia will get to wear the drums in herself as she is continuing
to rehearse with our music tutor Rob Ward in the school studio.
She plans to begin studying Performance in Melbourne in Semester 2.
“I feel great that school has won the kit,” Claudia said.
“I’m glad I could do something for the school and leave a mark.”
A great legacy Claudia! Thank you.

During our visit to the Year 11 Visual Art class students talked about the work & projects they were developing, and Declan Miller spoke about his Graphic Novel project and upcoming workshop excursion to Perth. Her Honour viewed the many works of art displayed around the college and even saw a photo of herself, from last years “Aspire” trip to Darwin, when we visited her at Government House for morning tea.
We would like to thank Her Honour for taking the time to come and meet with us and telling us some interesting stories about life as The Administrator of the Northern Territory.
Sean Xiao, Ellaby Kenneth & Jacquita Selmes
Student Representative Council
On Thursday 7 March we were pleased to welcome Her Honour the Honourable Vicki O’Halloran AM, Administrator of the Northern Territory, on a guided tour of the college where she met with several groups of students. Her Honour visited the Girls Academy, where she talked with students about sport, leadership and also voted for her favourite design for new the new Girls Academy logo.
We then visited the Clontarf Academy room where Her Honour spoke with Caleb Gerrard about the upcoming football tour to Darwin, where the Centralian Clontarf team will compete into retain the Clontarf Territory Cup won last year.
