Dear Grange Community

Today is our BBC Children in Need fundraising drive and it has been an inspiring day with children in ‘spotty’ mufti and Staff walking more than 25km collectively today to raise funds and raise awareness.

I want to say a big thank you to our Staff for everything they do every day for all our children at Grange.

They are a dedicated group of professionals who have chosen to make a positive difference in the lives of children.

I see them working hard to improve the children’s learning in all the curriculum areas and in addition, I see them working so hard to provide a positive experience for children at school.

This week, I saw Staff working so hard to find friends for children who were lonely; to tackle any acts of unkindness and above all , help children to learn ways of behaving and living that make the world a better place.

Every day of life is full of challenges and also opportunities and our Grange Staff work so hard to help chil-dren rise to the challenges and make the most of the opportunities that we offer at Grange

This week at Headteacher’s assembly we learnt the Makaton sign language for ‘ I Choose Kindness’ and that is what we are working on

Diwali Week

Last week we celebrated Diwali at Grange. The special events started on Monday with a whole school assembly. Darwin class led an informative and entertaining presentation where they acted out the story of Rama and Sita and explained many of the traditions and customs associated with Diwali. All pupils sang a song together about the 5 different days that Diwali incorpo-rates and a group of Year 2 children performed a wonderful Indian dance wearing lovely, traditional costumes. Furthermore, Year 4 linked their Science work on electricity to Diwali, the festival of light. Pupils presented their circuits to the rest of the school and explained how they made them. Each child received a Diwali greeting card created by another pupil on their way out of assembly. The catering team provided a delicious Diwali themed lunch that was enjoyed by children and staff alike. It was also lovely to see the school awash with colour as children and staff wore their vibrant celebration clothing. We were also very lucky to have a Bollywood Dance teacher join us for the day and all classes (and staff!) in Years 4 & 5 en-joyed learning a dance routine. This culminated in a fantastic end of the day performance in the playground. Throughout the week, all pupils were given a paper plate on which to create a Rangoli pattern. Many pupils created beautiful, intricate designs and Tubman class even linked their Rangoli patterns to their Maths work! On Friday afternoon between 3 and 5pm we held our Diwali Bazaar. Each year group had a stall where we sold the children's Rangoli patterns and children also had the chance to create a Rangoli pattern on the playground using coloured chalk. We also had a number of professionals from outside the school who were selling all sorts of treats from vegan cupcakes to traditional clothing and henna art. Thank you to the parents and carers who prepared some food to be sold at the Bazaar, to the huge number families that

attended the event and to all the members of staff who gave up their own time to set up and run the stalls. A special thank you to our Year 6 pupil team (Lewis, Briana, Kavishagini, Amuthini and Silsilla) who stayed after school to help out at the event. To all those who came, we hope you enjoyed the Diwali Bazaar as well as the dance performances on the play-ground that afternoon. May the light of Diwali last with you all throughout the coming year.
