Coursework All in class assignments are to be completed by the end of class, unless otherwise stated by the instructor. In the

event that there is an emergency, disability or sickness, then the teacher will make arrangements with the student for an extension of the in-class assignments. However this rule does not apply to students suspended during class.

All homework must be turned in at the beginning of the class the date due. If the homework is not turned in at the start of class on the date due it is considered late.

You are responsible for finding out missed assignments when you are absent.

Late work will result in a reduction of assignment grade. Please see you individual teachers to discuss their policy regarding late work.

Homework: assignments will likely be left hand processing pages in your notebook or articles to read that relate to the Engineering project of the given semester

Interactive Notebooks will be graded one –two times per quarter this grade will make up a bulk of the classwork and HW grade for the quarter so it is vital to keep up with your notebook.

Engineering Journal: This assignment will require reflection and artifacts from all

Participation One of the best ways to learn is to be engaged and participate in class activities, especially class projects, presentations

and discussions. It is expected that all students in the Warrior IDEA will participate and approach learning with an open

mind to discover and learn.

Tardiness & Absences Students are considered tardy once the door is closed or the instructor has started explaining the activity for the day.

You must have a tardy slip to get into class late that is issued during the tardy sweeps, from the office, or a note from a teacher/counselor is allowed on occasion

You will not get in without the pass once the door is closed! Students are expected to attend class daily and complete all assigned coursework.

Excused Absences for sickness will allow you to make up work without penalty if the assignment is turned in within one week of the absence

Excused Absences for School Business (specifically sports/ field trips, etc.) you must get your assignment ahead of time either before class, school, during lunch, or a passing period and turn it in your next day back otherwise it will be considered late.

Unexcused absences will be viewed as ditching and the teacher does not have to allow the assignment to be made up

Suspensions are considered unexcused absences therefore work packets and makeup work will be allowed based on teacher discretion

If the teacher allows work to be made up from an unexcused absence the student will receive half credit

Technology & Equipment Please refer to the Fresno Unified School District Technology, Networks & Internet Services Student Acceptable Use Policy for official FUSD policies regarding technology.

Twelve Behaviors of Intelligent People THE HABITS OF MIND

It's easy to appear intelligent when you already know the answer to a problem. However, in the Warrior I.D.E.A. you will be faced with many situations and problems where the answer is not readily apparent. In those cases, your teachers will be watching to see if you act intelligently while you attempt to solve the problem or arrive at an answer. Here are the twelve thinking tools that all intelligent people employ when they are searching for an answer. 1. PERSISTENCE: Don't give up. Keep trying. If one strategy doesn't work, try another. Faced with a problem to solve, intelligent people don't blurt out, "I can't do this." 2. MANAGING IMPULSIVITY: The correct answer or strategy may not be the first one you come up with. Your first project idea may not be the best. Think of alternatives. Consider the consequences of your ideas. 3. LISTENING: Other people have good ideas too. Listening to understand different points of view is one of the highest and most difficult intelligence of all.

4. CHECKING FOR ACCURACY: The last step in any task is to double-check your work. Reread the instructions. See that your language is precise and accurate. Make sure your computations are correct. Don't rush to finish a task. 5. FLEXIBILITY: Your way may not be the only way or the best way. In group situations you have to be able to allow others to have input. Don't lock on to one approach; consider the options. Explore ambiguity. Open your mind to new ideas. 6. DRAWING ON PAST KNOWLEDGE: Intelligent human beings learn from experience. They are able to take something they learned in one field and apply it to another. Look for connections, similarities and comparisons that will help you to explain, understand and process. 7. USE ALL THE SENSES: We learn through our senses, all five of them. When all your sensory pathways are open, alert and absorbing your whole world becomes a learning environment. 8. QUESTIONING: Questions are the path to the answer. The more you ask, the clearer things become. Ignorance is silent; it fears the person who asks questions. 9. METACOGNITION: Think about your thinking. Be aware of the patterns your mind uses when you problem solve. Strategies that worked in the past can often be used again if you take time to think about your thinking. 10. PRECISION OF LANGUAGE AND THOUGHT: Vague and imprecise language sounds confused. Use exactly the word you want. Speak in complete sentences. Say exactly what you mean. 11. CREATIVITY: Intelligent people use creativity to solve problems and find answers. They take risks. They see things from different angles. They are open to criticism. They allow their products to be judged by others and they use that input to their advantage. 12. WONDERMENT: Be curious. Enjoy the challenge of problem solving. See the opportunities all around you. There is pleasure in your work if you can find the wonder in it.
