FRENCH (minor) FAST FACTS • The College sponsors a program that invites international students from French and Spanish speaking universities to serve as on campus teaching assistants, providing Hiram students with opportunities to practice speaking their language of study in real-life, informal situations. WHAT YOU’LL LEARN • Complete a research paper that is written and presented entirely in French during your senior year • Take elective courses such as “French Cinema” and “French Literature” STUDY ABROAD All students majoring in a foreign language are required to study abroad for at least one academic term. We have faculty-led study trips to France regularly, which provide students with an opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the language and culture while living with a host family. What can you do with a French degree? You could become: • a translator/interpreter • a foreign services officer • a global sales manager • a travel guide • a cultural events coordinator • a diplomat • a national security agent • an immigration officer • a social worker • a teacher/professor • an international business executive • a foreign correspondent (over)

Additionally, students can take shorter study abroad trips to examine topics like the “Ethics of Food” while sampling cuisine in one of the food capitals of the world — France. This trip takes students to Paris, Provence and Brittany to explore olive groves and vineyards, traditional markets and more.

GET INVOLVEDJoin our student-run French Club which organizes French-related activities such as “Pause-Café” in which students, faculty and staff get together to practice their French conversation skills while enjoying snacks; field trips to the ballet, Cirque du Soleil, French operas, local exhibits and more; social events such as crepe parties; and outreach to local high school French classes.
