Music has everything to do with skateboarding - every skater has his or her own favorite songs and bands that help them to get stoked up to try stuff and to get into the mood for skateboarding. Here are some of the best bands to listen to while you skate.

1. CKY CKY - for "Camp Kill Yourself". CKY is famous for their music and videos. 2. MXPX MXPX has been on the scene for what feels like forever. Everybody loves these guys and their music is great for skating, and doing anything else extreme. A few songs for skateboarding are: "Middle Name", "Punk Rawk Show", and "Running Away".

3. The Offspring The Offspring has a huge pile of great music to get your blood pumpin'. Some favorites for skateboarding are: "All I Want", "One Fine Day", "Come Out Swinging", and "Falling". But there's plenty more… 4. Dogwood Dogwood is one of those bands that not everyone's heard of, but that is really really good! Dogwood is moderately heavy, but fast. It should keep your energy going. Some of the Dogwood’s songs for skateboarding are: "Building a Better Me", "The Good Times", and "Never Die". 5. NoFx : They are also one of the favorite bands to skate to for many riders - if you haven't heard 'em, check them out. You can also try Rancid.

6. Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly Both of these bands are Irish punk bands, and they rock to a ridiculous degree. If you are looking for something different to get pumped up to, try these songs: from Dropkick

Murphys, try "Captain Kelly's Kitchen". From Flogging Molly, try "Seven Deadly Sins". 7. Fall Out Boy, Punk and Pop-Punk Bands like Fall Out Boy (Emo bands, or bands that play stuff that's a sort of mix of rock and punk) can have good rhythms to get you into the flow of skating. If you want something with a little more of a punk feel, try Green Day, Goldfinger, Bowling for Soup, Simple Plan, and Blink 182. These all have wildly different sounds, but can end up under the "punk" or more likely the "pop-punk" heading.

8. Slick Shoes - Sum 41 Slick Shoes has also fast music, the mix makes a great sound for sustained listening and skateboarding. Try the song "Pretend to Be the Same" to get an idea of what they sound like. For heavier music try Sum 41 - "My Direction", "The Hell Song", or "No Reason" are all great songs with a good fast beat for skateboarding. 9. P.O.D. POD is perfect for heavier, thicker, more soulful riding. Not the best for thrashing - better for late night cruising, chillin’, dealing with the weight of the world. Try the songs "Anything Right", "Sleeping Awake", "Alive", or

"Boom". 10. Everything Else... Compiling a list like this is tough - there are so many other good bands out there for skateboarding. Here are a few more, check them out and see what you think: Pennywise, The Adicts, Linkin Park, Dr. Octogon, Thousand Foot Krutch, Deltron 3030, Ace Troubleshooter, 7 Seconds, Sepultra, Prodigy, Avril Lavigne…

The tricks of the month are the

followings:

It consists on rotating the table 360 along the axis of the skate in the direction of the heel of the foot (backwards). It's a complicated and frustrating trick when learning. You have to fall lots of times to learn the kickflip, but at the end it’s definitely worth it.

It consists on the same moves of the kickflip, except that the table rotates in the opposite direction (in the direction of the fingers) and is executed by sliding the heel towards the concave of the table.

This time, to choose the book of the month we decided to ask a famous skater’s opinion, Greg Lutzka

/

“My favorite book is Lord of the

Flies by William Golding.

The book is amazing, it’s full of

adventures. I loved the

freedom the children had on

the island. I was hooked on the

book from the beginning; it is

unputdownable because the

story is full of twists. It is just

outstanding!” Greg Lutzka

John Easton (06/12/10 at 12:13 pm)

“In my opinion William Golding, does a great job

in describing how humans would be forced to

fight between reason and instinct as they try to

survive in an uncivilized place. He states that since

each person has an evil nature, the crimes

committed are not the society’s fault, or anyone

else’s but their own and that in situations like

getting stranded on a desert island makes the evil

come out, turning into a beast.”

Davis Honeyfield (06/04/10 at 9:03 am)

“The novel Lord of the Flies is full of symbols.

Golding expresses his message through many

symbols, mostly about human race, that

appear throughout the book; each element

Golding includes is there because of a reason

and that is what I liked the most. It is one of

those books that you must read.”

Simon Roberts (06/21/10 at 7:34 pm)

“I loved this book, it is one of my favorites, I can visualize all of the adventures the boys had and all the extremes situations they had to face. Some parts remind me when I am riding and I feel full of adrenaline, like the kids in the book that sometimes didn’t know how to react to the different events. Through the novel, the boys on the island experience conflicts between civilization and savagery, good vs. evil, order vs. chaos, and reason vs. impulse. I really recommend this book as a coming – of – age novel, especially for teenagers.”

What is it about?

A plane crashes on a desert island carrying a group of boys. At first, they are very excited because there are no adults on the island, they are free to do anything they want and everything seems to be perfect, like a paradise. But then they realize that the island is not as good as they thought, it hides a lot of secrets and it reveals many problems and customs that the society has. Choose wisely, read it!
