From the Pastors…

Los Posados…Bienvenidos…The Inviting Church…All Are Welcome Dear Resurrection Family, We are pleased to announce that our Congregation Council has approved the request of Fredericksburg Spanish Seventh Day Adventist Church to share our facilities, beginning Saturday, January 5. Pastor Obed Rosette and his wife, Domitila, are the leaders for this young congregation of about 60 members. They will be worshipping and having classes on Saturday mornings and Saturday evenings at Resurrection. During the day they will be performing community service. Their monthly donation will be a help for our congregation. Though the congregation includes folks from several countries, Pastor Rosette and his wife are from Mexico. Do you know of the tradition that is practiced in Mexico and in the southwestern United States that is called “Los Posados”? It is a re-enactment of the Holy Family searching for lodging in Bethlehem. When finally someone opens their home to let strangers in, a party takes place. How special it is that we can open the doors of Resurrection to these fine Christians on the 11th Day of Christmas (January 5)! We had a fine relationship with Cristo la Roca Church for over 2 years. When they moved on to occupy their own building in Fredericksburg, we began our search for a new ministry partner. The Council appointed a committee composed of Karen Meyer, Jeff Sohlke, and us pastors. We felt like Los Posados in reverse when we had trouble finding a suitable ministry partner. Then a phone call came and Domitila Rosette said they were searching for a new church home and wanted to know if we had room. “Any room at the inn?” is what came to our minds. The next time you come to worship, please note the words on the main doors: “Bienvenidos” and “Welcome”. We call ourselves “The Inviting Church”. Our welcome statement says “All are Welcome.” Let’s find ways to meet, partner with, and be friends with the members at Fredericksburg Spanish Seventh Day Adventist Church... and say a special prayer of thanks to God for another miracle. In Christ’s love,

Pastor James C. Kniseley Pastor Carol H. Kniseley The Rev. Carol Kniseley

cordially

invited to a

Christmas Please bring a short paragraph about a Christmas memory. At the

end of the paragraph, list five clues about yourself so others can guess whose story it is when read aloud (by someone other than you). You may also bring an ornament for the Christmas tree.

From our Preschool Director. . . December at Resurrection Lutheran School With Christmas around the corner, things are especially busy and exciting at Resurrection Lutheran School! We have so many fun things planned: a field trip to Elysium Tree Farm to pick out trees for our classrooms and to learn about how trees grow, our second annual Breakfast with Santa, a mitten drive for students at Chancellor Elementary, and birthday parties for Jesus! Christmas time provides a wonderful opportunity for children to learn about being grateful and sharing. The children also stay very busy making numerous ornaments for their tree, special gifts for their parents, and even gingerbread houses! What a fun time! Coming up: As the weather gets colder and nights get longer, RLS is planning "Family Night," a joint event between the families of RLC and RLS. Families can come together after a hectic week and enjoy pizza and then a movie for kids and a speaker for the adults. We hope to kick this fun event off in January. Stay tuned! Also in January, we will begin our priority enrollment process for RLS current students, siblings of current students, RLC members, and siblings of former students. Make sure to contact Kara Irving [email protected] if you are interested in information as we anticipate filling our classes quickly again this year. Breakfast with Santa Please join us for a wonderful family event on Saturday December 8th from 9AM-11AM: our second annual Breakfast with Santa. With crafts, yummy breakfast food, time for fellowship, and a chance to speak to Mr. Claus himself, it promises to be a good time! Look for a sign-up sheet in the Narthex for items to bring. Books for children at Chancellor Elementary will be collected in conjunction with our Angel Tree collection. Don't forget your camera for this special event!

Again this year we will be sponsoring some Chancellor Elementary School Families with Christmas Blessings along with several Resurrection Families. The Angel Tree will be in the narthex on Sunday, November 18th. What you need to do to participate in this tremendous outreach project:

! Pick a tag from the Angel Tree.

! Buy the item the tag requests and them gift wrap.

! Please be sure to attach the Angel Tree tag to the present.

! Gifts need to be returned to the church by Sunday, December 9th to allow the Faith in Action team to organize the gifts and get them to Chancellor Elementary for distribution.

Please place gift receipts in the red basket at the Angel Tree for possible matching funds.

HANGING OF THE GREENS

Please join the Decorating Team at 9:30 am on Saturday December 1st to decorate the church for the Advent/Christmas seasons. Many hands will help to quickly transform the church to reflect the beauty of this special time of year.

Wondering About the RLC Mortgage?

RLC has two mortgages that we are responsible for as stewards of our place of worship. The first mortgage is for our old building and the second mortgage is for the new addition. Each month we have a combined mortgage payment of $16,761, which is roughly 38% of our monthly expenses. Starting next month, the treasurer’s report will include a “Mortgage Chart” to show how we are progressing against our mortgage.

Call for Audit Volunteers

We are still looking for a few good volunteers. If you feel called to support this short-term ministry need please contact Sabrina Stringer via e-mail at [email protected] or 540-905-5009 (cell).

Faith in Action – December Opportunities – Imagine the Possibilities!

“Scouting for Food Project” – Many thanks to the efforts of Boy Scout Troop #791, along with the help of Resurrection members, we have quite a collection of food. This supply will help to fill boxes of food for our Angel Tree families, help fill the Food Pantry at Christ Lutheran Church, and provide much needed food for the Hope House program.

Please continue to provide holiday foods in December for these programs. The needs are ever growing and we can help to make a difference! Food Suggestions: corn, green beans, peas, cranberry sauce,

macaroni & cheese, baked beans, packets or canned gravy, sweet potatoes, instant mashed potatoes, muffin or biscuit mix, evaporated milk, pumpkin pie mix

Christmas Giving Ideas

! Angel Tree Project – See Article on page 5.

! ELCA Good Gifts – Gifts that make a difference! Pick up an ELCA Good Gifts catalog at one of the credenza as in the narthex or at the World Hunger table by the Baobab tree. There are many gifts ideas from which to choose.

! Special World Needs through the ELCA • ELCA World Hunger • ELCA Disaster Response: Hurricane Sandy – U.S. • ELCA Malaria Campaign

This is easy to do. Just add an additional amount to your regular church contribution and indicate on your church envelope on one of the “other” lines the amount and the fund you want to contribute to. You can also use one of the special envelopes found in the pews or at the World Hunger table and place it in the offering plate.

Pray for Resurrection’s members and friends on the prayer list as well as those serving in the armed forces. Cards, notes, phone calls, cookies or special treats make wonderful gifts. Whatever you do, wherever you are, make this Christmas a special time by sharing your joy and thanksgiving for the gift of our Savior, Jesus Christ! Merry Christmas! From your Music Ministries Leader…

December music ministry will be featuring a menu of Christmas music, ranging from traditional carols to contemporary Christian music. Our Christmas cantata, "The Christmas Story", will be presented on December 9th at both services. The music will lift up and magnify our Lord Jesus Christ in hope of bringing every "listener" closer to HIM. The Children's Christmas cantata will be between services on December 16th. Please come experience this spreading of His Good News in the ministry of music at these cantatas and also for our Christmas Eve services. More than two-thousand years ago, Jesus was born into our midst as an innocent baby. The songs we present this season are indeed a celebration of that fact, with beautiful words of scripture describing our savior with an ending emphasis on sharing the Word with the world. "Go and tell the children they are precious in HIS sight; carry the light." Thoughts and prayers are with you all for a blessed Christmas.

Love, Amy

CROP WALK

What amazing things happen when churches join together for a cause! On October 21, Resurrection Lutheran members walked with more than 200 others through downtown Fredericksburg in the annual CROP Walk. The group raised the most ever for our local Crop Walk: $4,045.00. 75% of the money raised went to Church World Service for international and national hunger and poverty relief. 25% of the money stayed in the local community and was divided between Micah Ecumenical Ministries and the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank. Thanks to our NAF group for their generous $300 donation, Thrivent Financial for $300, and to all the RLC members who supported the CROP Walk. If you missed it this year, please come next year and help us make a difference in the lives of those who are hungry.
