The Wyoming Avenue Baptist Mission opened at the present locstion of the Church on Septembar 10, 1891. The dedication wrw.on was by Russell H. Conwell, D. D. Messrs. E. Frick, David Titlow and Thomas Harvey were chosen a s Trustees of the property until i t was placed un- der t h e fostering care of the Baptist City Mission Society of Philadelphia. The nulpit was supplied respectively by Revs. King, Maltby Stock and French, and Rev. James French remained in active relation t o t h e work af ter th? advent of the present Pastor, Rev. Jno. A. Hookway, ir, September, 1895. H e patsed to his reward a t t h e ripe age of 85 years in August, 1900. H e was full of the Holy Spiriz and of faith, and his life fruitful in al l good work.

The Church was organized in September, 1900, with a membership of 35. In 1905 the structure a t the rear of the Church building was erected to accommodate the grow- ing Bible School a t a cost of $6080, plus the cost of ;he heating apparatus, and the shutters and glass partition.

The Misslon grew out of the need of the community fo r a place of religious instruction f o r the children. The response t o the call t o provide such structure was so gen- erous tha t provision w a s a t once made for preaching serv- ices a s well as the Bible School session. After twenty- four years of service Pastor Hookway is still with us and intent on proving all things, in order t o hold fas t to that which is eternal and true. Holding a lofty ideal of both the ethics and attainments of the ministry, t h a t ideal is fully shared by his people. Mrs. Edna M. Hookway, w!lo is fully and faithfully occupie, +I the work of t h e Church, was one of the early attendants a t t h e MSssion, and so were Mrs. Mae M. Frick Mrs. C. Adams, Mr. and Mr& W. Marshall and other loyal workers.

It is our priviIege to write the next chapter in thp history of the work so well begun, and we doubt not tt-..:~ i t will in spirit and achievement be as worthy as that al- ready written. Our aim must be concentrated on our New Building if t h e Church is t c retain her place in the Community. For the past and present \.re "thank God, and take courage." F o r tile future we press .on to the attainment of our goal in Christ.

O u r @ovenant Having been led, a s we believe, by the Spirit of Gd.,

to receive the Lord Jesus, Christ a s our Saviour, and, on profession of o w faith, having been baptized i n the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost, wo do now, in the presence of God, angels and this assembly, niost solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, a s one body in Christ.

We promise, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, t o forsakc the paths of sin, and t o walk in the ways of holiness all the days of our lives. With this view, we engage to strive together fo: the advancement of this Church, in knowl- edge holiness and comfort; t o promote i t s prosperity and spirituality; to sustain 'its worship, ordinances, discipline and doctrines; to conaribute cheerfully and regularly to t h e support of the ministry, the expenses of the Chmch, the relief oi the poor ail6 ;he spread of the Gospel thr.oughout all nations.

We also engage t o maintain family and secret devo- tion;to religious!^ educate our children; t o seek the salva- tion of our kindred and acquaintances; t o walk circum- spectly in the world; t o be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements and exemplary in our deportment; t o avoid all tattling, EackbitSng and excessive anger; t o ab- stain from the :ale and use of intoxicating liquors a s a beverage; and to he zealous in our efforts to advance t h e Kingdom of our Saviour.

We further engage to walk together in Christian love and watchfulness, giving and receiving admonition with meekness and affection; t o remember each other in prayer; t o aid each ot?er in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian ay: pathy in feeling and courtesy in speech; tq be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the rules of our Saviour, to secure it, without delay. v e , moreover, engage that, when w e re- move from this place, we will a s soon a s possible unite with some other Church, where we can carry out the spirit of this Covenant and the principles of God's Word.
