Minor Crop Agrochemical Extrapolation
FPEAK is working with Pesticides Control Products Board (PCPB), Agrochemicals Association of Kenya (AAK) and Kenya Plant Health
Inspectorate Services (KEPHIS) to facilitate and guide on the extrapolation of agrochemicals for minor crops in Kenya. A number of pesti-
cides have been registered and the process is ongoing.
COLEACP has expressed interest in assisting on the ongoing working on minor crops in Kenya. This is through supporting generation of
efficacy and residue data in order to increase the availability of registered plant protection products for growers. The committee has
prioritized the pest control products to be tested in this project and waiting for the funds to start.
National Consultation And Validation Workshop On Eac Fruits And Vegetables Strategy And Action Plan 2020-2030
FPEAK, alongside other stakeholders took part in the National Consultation and Validation workshop on EAC Fruits and Vegetables Strat-
egy and Action Plan 2020 – 2030 which took place on 12th and 13th August 2020 at Emara Ole Sereni Hotel, Nairobi.
This was a follow up of the workshop which took place in December 2019 at Boma Inn Hotel, Nairobi. FPEAK made recommendations to
the government which are aimed at easing the business environment therefore making Kenyan Products more competitive.
KS 1758 Implementation Preparedness
FPEAK and other stakeholders (HCD, KEPHIS, PCPB, FPC Kenya and KFC) who sit in the conformity assessment committee is in the
process of approving the Certification Bodies which would be allowed to conduct the KS 1758 audits for both Part 1 – Flowers and Orna-
mentals and Part 2 – Fruits and Vegetables.
Various certification Bodies have applied to audit the various scopes of the KS 1758 standard and will soon be approved or denied as per
their capabilities.

Kenya Horticultural Market Access Program supported by TMEA
A Baseline Study for Kenya Horticultural Market Access Program has been undertaken and a draft report has been shared with FPEAK.
The aim of the study is to identify bottlenecks and opportunities that exist throughout the horticulture value chain.
Economic Survey for the impact of Moi South Lake Road to various sectors was conducted and the report presented to the Government
of Kenya. The report highlighted the plight of the Horticulture sector as well as the other sectors which have been negatively affected by
the deplorable state of the road.

Farmer Training on GLOBALGAP
FPEAK is currently conducting Farmer Group training sessions under the Kenya Horticultural Market Access Program.
As at 1st October 2020, FPEAK had trained four farmer groups i.e. Unity Farmers SHG and Gituamba Bidii SHG in Machakos County, Ikolya River SHG and Wautu River SHG in Makueni county reaching a total of 116 farmers directly.
FPEAK continues to train other farmer groups under the same program.

FPEAK Advocacy Activities
FPEAK has partnered with other industry partners to hold advocacy meetings which aim to improve the logistics issues which the horti-culture faces daily. These meetings will help develop position papers which would be presented to the government in a bid ensure smooth operations and reduced costs of handling logistics.
Packhouse Staff Training on BRC and FSSC 22000FPEAK has engaged consultant who is training packhouse staff from within FPEAK membership on BRC and FSSC 22000. The training targets more than 100 packhouse staff.
Operationalization of Horticulture Market Information System.Under this program, FPEAK and partners aim to Improve and operationalize the Horticulture Market Information System which is being run by AFA-HCD. The Terms of Reference has been developed and circulated to potential consultants who would conduct the assign-ment
