w Make sense from an economic, safe and ecological point of view:

Aluminium is a material that is lightin weight and highly robust:The density of aluminium is only around

2.6 to 2.8 g/cm3. This is approximately1/3 rd of the density of steel. Despite its

low weight aluminium features very

high strength characteristics.

Aluminium is impervious to watervapour:Even under extremely long-term storage

conditions, it is impossible for moisture

to penetrate the material. By means of

welding it is possible to fabricate an alu-

minium container so that it is resistant

to water vapour.

Aluminium is resistant to impact andvery strong:The surface may be dented by impact

but the impact energy is absorbed by

the distortion.

Aluminium is not sensitive to extremefluctuations in temperature:In the temperature range of – 40 to

+80 °C the material characteristics

remain constant.

Aluminium is resistant to corrosionand has a built-in defensive response:On contact with oxygen the surface

develops an oxide layer which is rein-

stated immediately if damage occurs.

Aluminium is hygienic:The smooth surface is easy to clean

and neutral in terms of odour. Alu-

minium containers are eminently

suitable for areas where hygiene is

a primary requirement.

Aluminium conducts electricity:Aluminium is a good conductor of

electricity and heat, an advantage with

housings for electronic installations

for example.

Aluminium is magnetically neutral:Aluminium is free from ferro-magnet-

ism. This material characteristic may

assume major importance for certain

application.

Aluminium is fully recyclable:Old aluminium can be melted down and

re-used – a positive contribution towards

relieving the burden of waste disposal

and protecting the environment.

Aluminium is resistant to UV radiation:Long storage periods and use under

exposure to UV rays have no effect on

this material.

Aluminium lends itself to machining in a number of different ways:All the standard machining processes –

welding, moulding etc. – can be applied

to aluminium and can be carried out

very much more cost-efficiently than is

the case with other metals.

ZARGES Universal Containers – in the forefront of innovationfor more than 50 years The Universal Container K470 is a realclassic. Developed way back in 1950, today it still continues to stand for the power of innovation, the highest standards ofquality, maximum functionality and convincing design. Char-acteristics that have made it into a model for the majority ofthe ZARGES logistics products. It has been redesigned twice,consistently taking account of the latest state of technologyand with the addition of useful accessories. It thus providesthe optimum solution for safe and reliable transport, efficientstorage, the perfect packaging solution and reliable protec-tion for your goods from external influences.

ZARGES Universal Containersan innovation spanning more than 50 years

ZARGESZARGES K470 series – in accordance with to ATA 300 standard

The entire K470 series has beeen successfully tested in

accordance with the international aviation standard ATA 300

(category I). This is official confirmation of its suitability for

use in conjunction with air cargo. Category I means that a

container must be capable of standing up to a minimum

of 100 service cycles (i.e. inbound and outward flight in each

case) in air freight operation. ZARGES commissioned the

well-known test laboratory, Dayton T. Brown from the USA

to carry out the corresponding test series.

The following criteria were investigated:

w Drop resistance: K470 cases were loaded with a weight

of 23 kg and dropped 280 times from a height of

76/92 cm. Afterwards the locks and hinges were still

functioning perfectly and the lid could be opened and

closed without any problems.w Imperviousness to spray: the cases were sprinkled with

100 litres of water over a period of one hour.w Stability: this included a vibration test where the

cases were loaded with a weight of 23 kg and placed

on a vibrating table for two hours.

Special features K470.w Order Nos. 40 677 and 40 835 are fitted with: 1 drop-type

handle on the lid, corner beading, 1 snaplock in the centre of

the container.w Order Nos. 40 810 (no beading) and 40 849 (with beading) are

fitted with: 1 handle on the front between the snaplocks.w Order Nos. 40 580, 40 875 and 40 876 are fitted with:

2 each skids made from extruded aluminium on lid and floor,

3 snaplocks on front and 2 drop-type handles at each end.w Order No. 40 568 is fitted with an additional handle

on the front.

Stacking corners in cast aluminium.

All-round seal incorporated in the lid. Protected against wear and tear, overloading

and squashing.

Seal also guaranteed in the corners

(special notches).

Stainless steel hinge strips riveted to the

sheet metal outer covering and the solid profile lid

(to prevent them being ripped out).

Skid bars in robust aluminium profile on

the top of containers with external dimensions

of 1200 × 800 mm and above (additional lid

reinforcement).

Edge, base and lid profile framework in solid

profile, fully welded with sheet metal providing

a strong and durable joint.

Snap fasteners and hooks in aluminium/stainlesssteel, corrosion-resistant and with provision for

lead seal, padlock or quick-lock buckle closures.

2 heavy-duty lid straps, sealed at the ends

High-performance flash butt welding process in

accordance with DIN EN ISO 4063. This intensive

stability and strength.

Heavy-duty ergonomic drop handles with returning spring (stainless steel)

and plastic sleeve.

Extremely strong, smooth, visually appealing

spot welds in accordance with DIN ISO 4063.

The overlap joint in the sheet metal outer covering

has no fissures and is extremely durable.

All-round beading and corner beading for reinforcement.

All riveted joints have solid rivets.

w We manufacture customised padded inserts from a

wide range of materials which, in terms of protection

and functionality, are perfectly coordinated with the

goods you wish to transport. w One of the special features of these first-class foams

is the fact that the protective effect of the finished

packaging can be calculated in advance.w Taking into account weight, area, height of drop and

sensitivity (G value) we develop packaging for you

featuring optimum padding thickness. The result is

maximum protection with minimum raw materials

Pick ’n Pluck Foam Set

Foam linings

w Pre-punched soft foam inserts made from open-cell

PU foam, the fast and cost-effective solution for

Mitraset® 19˝Electronic Housings to VG 95446 aredesigned to accommodate electronics equipment in a19˝rack. They fulfil a number of protective functions:for instance, deflection of mechanical stresses suchas impact, shock and vibrations, protection againstelectromagnetic interference such as radio waves,lightning strikes etc. as well as from general environ-mental influences such as heat, moisture, dust etc. In order to fulfil these requirements Mitraset® 19˝Electronic Housings are constructed as follows: Thecasing is constructed of precision welded high tensilealuminium sheets to which an elastically suspendedanti-vibration frame, made from extrusions, is fitted.The actual device to be protected is inserted into thisframework and screwed in. The anti-vibration frame-work is linked to the casing by means of rails and rub-ber shock mounts, the type of bearing and the materialused are selected to suit the relevant requirements.
