The CSR ChallengeThe CSR Challenge

• CSR is nothing new: we have been doing it for a long time

• But ….– we did not structure what we were doing– we did not measure against our peers– we were good but didn’t tell it

• What to do to make it happen?

• Our ambition is to be top of the range!

MakeMake itit happen happen• setting of 5 KPI’s in 2004: injuries, absence, waste, oxygen

demand, volatile organic compounds,

• another 9 KPI’s in 2006: finetuning and extending with energyconsumption and low carbon%, CO2 emission, water use

• make it part of operational planning and managementrenumeration,

• involve all employees & train our Business Principles

• account for improvement in externally verified CSR report.

Children Helmet Project

to protect againstdaily riskof local traffic

Children Helmet Project - Intervet India -Background

• 70% of fatal traffic accidents in India related to two-wheeler drivers andtheir co-passengers

• Families travel on two-wheelers - which is the most common way ofcommuting - without any protection (helmet)

• Safety-first program: mandatory use of helmets during the working week

• But many accidents were occurring in the weekends. The main reasonfor this was the lack of children's helmets. In solidarity with theirunprotected children, many parents were not wearing helmets either.

Children Helmet Project - Intervet India -Design & Implementation• Sizable quantity of quality children helmets

• Comfort and acceptance by peers important element > 'design your own helmet' initiative

Children Helmet Project - Intervet India -Result• Almost all employees purchased helmets for their children

• Children are using their helmets every day - even on their ownbicycles - and our HSE performance has improvedsubstantially

• 2004 and first half of 2005 have been the first years in thecompany's history without any LTI or fatal accident – with alittle help from the helmets
