Introduction
Many people don’t realize that helmets prevent skull fractures, not concussions, which are brain injuries. A high technology sensor is available in the market, we used and develops a range of Shock Box Sensors to alert parents/friends or coaches that an “at-risk” hit has occurred, so concussion checks and protocols start as early as possible.
We are using GPS module to locate the position of rider on the two-wheeler with high accuracy positioningand also GSM module is used for autonomous communication to notify the position.
As we see many accidents in the day to day life due to alcohol consumption so we are trying to implement alcohol sensors within the helmet. Since too much use of the helmet internal temperature rises which is not comfortable for the rider, hence we make use of exhaust fan to maintain the temperature.
Block diagram
Fig.1 Block Diagram of Smart Helmet System.
Fig.2 Block Diagram of receiver and Starter switch.
Microcontroller 89s52:
a) it is 8-bit microcontroller with 40 pins.
b) It has three 16-bit timers/counters.
c) It also has 32 programmable I/O lines with flash memory.
Vibration sensor: it is used to sense the vibration when the
accident occur.
Working
alcohol sensor: liquid sensor ( IQL 25 ) is fixed in the helmet to sense
the alcohol consumption.
LCD: 16 x 2 is used for displaying the latitude and longitude(16 x
2 means 16 character in two lines).
Temperature sensor: Temperature sensor used to sense the
temperature inside the helmet if more than 30 degree, it turns
on the exhaust fan.
GSM: It is used for autonomous communication.
GPS: It is used to locate the position of two-wheeler.
Microcontroller 89s52.
LCD display 16x2.
GSM modem (900 MHz)
GPS receiver (2.3 GHz)
RF transmitter and receiver (47 MHz)
Alcohol sensor
Temperature sensor.
Vibration sensor.
Solar cell 6 volt.
Features
It will send a message of location automatically when he/she
met an accident with helmet on.
RF transmitter and receiver are used for starting the two wheeler,
if she/he is not wearing the helmet, the two-wheeler will not start.
The alcohol sensor is used to sense the alcohol consumption and
it will lock the ignition if drunk.
It will automatically switch on air fan inside helmet when the
temperature is high.
The solar cell is generating power for the system.
It can be tracked easily with location when two-wheeler is stolen.
Disadvantages
GSM network is required.
If helmet is stolen, the bike cannot be
started.
Applications
It can be used in real time safety system.
We can implement the whole circuit into small
module later.
Less power consuming safety system.
This safety system technology can further be
enhanced into four wheeler also by replacing
the helmet with seat belt.
The smart helmet system with advanced alcohol
sensing including GSM and GPS Technology is used
to authenticate with bike to unlock the ignition of the
two-wheeler. The life of a rider on two wheelers can
be saved from the road accident with standard
protection with safety feature.
Conclusion
The present situation in our
country we are not using this
type of two wheeler and this
technology. To reduce the
manual efforts and human errors,
we need to have some kind of
automated system monitoring all
the parameters and functioning
of the connections between the
two wheeler personnel and the
parents.
