1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Title D*man
Abstract Please give a brief description of the benefits of the technology, including key words of technical or competitive advantages (max. 500 characters) Goal of the D*man project proposal is the development of a computational and simulation-able model of the human physiology. The project also addresses the application of the final “digital (hu-)man” including the its impact on health care processes and its integration in existing and future information systems of the health supply chain. Description/ Special features .
The modeling itself is planed to be realized from a service-oriented view on the human physiology: organs, the blood circuit, muscoskeletal or nervous system will be modeled as separated entities providing and requesting services from other entities. Each entity will be implemented as a grid service (or a set of grid services) by a cooperating group consisting of bio-medical specialists, grid technologists and modeling experts. All services will be configurable using patient specific parameters in order to, e.g., simulate and forecast reactions on drugs. Existing grid (communication) standards will be used, but also expanded, to integrate the partial models to a complete model of the human physiology. The grid based service-oriented concept allows both, the further development of partial models without affecting other models as well as the availability of adequate computation power using distributed computing resources.
Regarding to the impact of patient specific medical simulations on health care processes, application scenarios will be developed in order to identify potentials for increases in medical quality, process efficiency and/or effectiveness, and reductions of costs. Against the background of the (bio-medical) ability to model, e.g., human organs, the technical feasibility and the modeling and computation costs, the expected benefits of d*man applications will be used to determine a roadmap for “simulation based healthcare” applications.
The implementation of a simulation prototype and its application in real world hospital processes is planned.

< 50 employees 50-249 employees 250-500 employees X > 500 employees Description of activities/expertise/Other details With the vision of "Seamless Healthcare", the Mobile and Electronic Health (MEH) research group addresses the horizontally and vertically consistent creation of health care services, which adapt to the variable individual situation of the patient over time. The focus is an effective and efficient patient-centered health care, independent of time and location.
The MEH group attempts initiatives in order to identify and evaluate future potentials of the use of innovative ICT technologies in health care. It positions its research activities between scientific basic research and practical application. The research concentrates on the following fields:
• Empirical Analysis, • (Reference-) Models and System Architectures, • Implementation, Integration and Evaluation of Information Systems.
The MEH research group is part of the department Information System II of the University Hohenheim, Stuttgart, which superordinated research interests are adaptivity of value systems by means of ICT. Basic and applied research is done in the fields of software technology (multi and mobile agent technology, grid computing), application design (mobile and wearable computing), process management and business process engineering.
Access to a large and heterogeneous contact network exists. Our network actually consists of enterprises in the (European-wide) domain of telecommunications (carrier and supplier) as well as the German health care domain (hospitals, insurances, software industry). Contacts to different supercomputer centers are available due to actual grid projects (European-wide).

Title eHealth solution provider for healthcare organisati ons, professionals and patients
Abstract Please give a brief description of the benefits of the technology, including key words of technical or competitive advantages (max. 500 characters) With its eHealth solutions ICW makes a vital contribution towards continuing improvements in the quality of health care. ICW’s solutions connect existing IT systems of physicians, pharmacists, hospitals and other health care providers, thus enabling the seamless exchange of medical data. All ICW solutions are compatible with eHealth infrastructure frameworks, e-g- the German electronic health card. Additionally, ICW is developing innovative value added applications, e.g. the personal health record LifeSensor. Description/ Special features .
ICW is offering technology for health in four main categories: eHealth infrastructure, infrastructure solutions for physicians and hospitals (doctor/ hospital connectivity) and the LifeSensor personal health record. ICW solutions provide secure and reliable connectivity for existing health information technology systems using state-of-the-art standards-based interfaces (e.g. HL7). At the heart of this smooth information flow is the web-based personal health record LifeSensor. As a hub for data and processes it brings together internal and external systems. The concept of the personal health record and the infrastructure components associated with it are based on international standards and are adapted to national requirements in concrete projects. 1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Title Digital holography instrumentation for the identification of diseased or cancerous tissue
Abstract Please give a brief description of the benefits of the technology, including key words of technical or competitive advantages (max. 500 characters)
Digital holography is a full-field optical technique that may be used to measure the physical properties of
biological tissue, e.g. Young’s modulus, to characterise complex tissue deformations and to study the
vibration behaviour of the tissue. It can measure these in real time with sub-micron accuracy. From the
medical perspective it has the ability to locate diseased or cancerous tissue in a non-contact way and may
for example be integrated with existing medical procedures, such as endoscopy.
Description/ Special features.
Digital holography is a modern optical measurement technique which is a combination of classical
holography and advanced calculation techniques.

The Institut für Technische Optik (ITO) at the Universität Stuttgart has had an international standing in the
simulation and experiment in optical measurement techniques for more than 25 years. The Institut is headed
by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Osten and has approximately 40 members. In the field of digital holography it has
been at the leading edge of research since the early 1990s. In this field significant developments have been
made in optical design, the development of numerical algorithms, in endoscopic measurements and in
physical parameter measurement. Applications in medical and engineering applications have been
demonstrated. In total more than 50 peer reviewed publications in digital holography have been published by
members of the Institute.
