Formal Note Taking
English 1 CASMrs. Paolicelli
Repeat after me:
1. Mrs. Paolicelli did not invent these rules.
2. This is ONE way to take notes.
3. The formality and structure help to avoid plagiarism.– You can still get busted
for “accidentally” plagiarizing.
4. Staying on task and on target will make the outline EASY.
5. Trust the rules, the process, and Mrs. Paolicelli.
6. Once you master the rules you may one day break them and take notes your own way.
7. DON’T MISS CLASS.

Other Tips:
1. Read before you take notes.
2. TITLE EVERY CARD.– You WANT to have cards
with the same title from different sources.
3. Don’t take notes in complete sentences unless you are quoting.
4. If you are quoting, USE QUOTATION MARKS.
5. Always record page numbers if taking notes from a book.
6. If something is interesting, note it. Better to have too many notes than not enough!
