Celebrate Living History Sponsorship Proposal

Forget about Ages tour Hello my name is Bev Wilkinson and I am the founder of Celebrate Living

History, which is the only journalism program in Australia that is

focussed on connecting students with senior citizens.

I have been given the opportunity to represent Australia as a speaker for the Generations United Conference in the US. This event attracts leaders,

educators and advocates from around the world. And it is my goal to learn from this experience. To interview and discover successful organisations and

individuals around the United States that breaks down stereotypes about age. My goal is to create a global movement to forget about ages. To have the

ability to show we all have an important story to share regardless of how old we are.

I am flying to the US in five weeks and I am looking for major sponsors to join me on this journey.

North Carolina: Duke University. Invited to learn alongside museum

professionals who run programs for visitors with dementia. These special

tours offer people who live with memory loss and their families the opportunity to enjoy art in the moment and to engage with the current exhibitions using

multiple senses Milwaukee: I will be representing Australia as a speaker for the Generations

United Intergenerational Conference. This event attracts leaders, educators and advocates from around the world.

Atlanta: Storycorps Program at the Atlanta History Centre. Discovering how a

major organisation curates stories from the local community on a global scale.

Let me share my story!

In 2012 I interviewed seniors in my local area, Frankston Victoria, Australia

for an exhibition. While I was interviewing the most interesting people I'd ever come across I

began to realize the value of the stories these senior citizens were imparting.

These people had lived our history. As I listened, our age barriers were forgotten and relationships began to

form between us.

I was inspired. Sharing my life changing experience of intergenerational connection with young people became my goal.

In 2012 I developed a university internship program with the help of Griffith University scholar and tutor, Stephen Stockwell, Swinburne University and

Frankston High School. The Celebrate Living History program grew into an online platform with the

focus of connecting young students with seniors to document stories for future generations to enjoy and learn from.

I hope that by sharing my experiences of mentoring secondary and tertiary students to curate stories for the Celebrate Living History online portal I can

enthuse others to take up this important work.
