See even moreWith the camera, you have even more in view. When driving forwards, the screen in the cab dis-plays the image from the camera on the spout, so that the trailer can be filled perfectly and uni-formly. When reversing, the screen automati-cally switches to the rear camera so that the oper-ator can see any possible obstacles behind the machine. That significantly increases safety.

Ideal visibilityAll-round visibility from the cab is guaranteed. The large glazed areas in the cab provide an unob-structed view to the header as well as the feed and discharge areas, which makes adjusting the machine much easier. The engine on the Katana is mounted longitudinally so it can be positioned lower, which allows low sightlines towards the rear of the machine. This gives operators a perfect view in all directions.

LightatnightIn forage harvester operations, every single min-ute counts, day or night. The extensive lighting concept provides bright and far-reaching illumina-tion around the Fendt Katana, so that work can continue, even when it is dark outside. The wide steps are illuminated to allow safe climbing up and down from the machine.

Best visibility – day or night

Best overview, even towards the rearTo provide optimum visibility towards the rear, and

therefore perfect all-round vision, the engine has been mounted longitudinally and the body of the machine has been kept extremely low at the rear.

Cool drinks are always on board

A large cool box for refreshments is located under the comfortable instructor seat.

Giant glazed areas and unobstructed visibility The strongly curved front window has A-pillars that

have been set further towards the rear, so the entire header is in view.

Precise control

Membrane keypad within easy reach The membrane keypad is located directly in the arm-

rest and is used to operate the hand brake, field/road driving modes and Eco/Power mode, activating the cutting unit, the engine speed, header on/off, position of the spout, additional silage additive and rear axle suspension on/off.

With the touch of a finger The toggle switches provide easy control of functions

such as folding the support wheels for the maize header and pick-up up/down, tilting the header, raising/lowering the spout.

Handy operating element on the right-hand armrest

The practical right armrest, which is very popular with Fendt tractor drivers, has been adopted and adapted to the forage harvester. It is not only a comfortable armrest, but also an ergonomic control unit with toggle switches and membrane keys for auxiliary functions.

The Varioterminal with colour display, touch-screen (operation using rotary control and keys is also possible) is easy to operate and guarantees detailed machine monitoring, to keep the machine operating reliably.

The VarioterminalThe Vario-Terminal, very popular with users, has been adopted in the forage harvester and adapted to its operating philosophy. It can be operated either with the touchscreen or the keys and rotary control. The menu has been designed for ease of operation and has a flat and intuitive menu hier-archy. The conveniently placed 4-way keys on the multi-function joystick allow convenient adjust-ment of the most important cutting functions.

EverythingathandThe Visio5 cab has been designed for ideal ergo-nomics. Operators can easily find an optimal sit-ting position on the air-suspended seat. There is plenty of legroom and the steering wheel is height and tilt-adjustable. The right armrest holds all the controls. All of the important functions are housed in the multi-function joystick and Varioterminal or assigned to rocker switches and membrane keys. The tilted position of the multi-function joystick makes it a perfect hand rest for maximal comfort, even for long days.

Varioterminal well-structuredOperators always have the most important infor-mation in view in the large Varioterminal. The most important information, such as direction of travel, fuel consumption, header position or cruise control, is always clearly in view in the upper right quarter. The toggle switches in the right-hand nav-igation bar lead directly to the individual menus. These include, for example, the settings for the for-age harvester, header height and cutting length as well as job management.

Varioterminal screen in the field

Information about the utilisation of the forage harvester, cutting length, header and feed roller speed as well as the preselected working and lifting heights for the header are clearly displayed here.

Varioterminal screen on the road

When driving on the road, the ground speed and engine speed, the fill levels for diesel and AdBlue, as well as the temperature, support wheel function and fuel consumption can be monitored in the terminal.

10 11

Fendt Variotronic

AlwaystherightspeedThe maximum output control automatically adjusts ground speed to match the harvesting and crop conditions. Engine power is utilised optimally to achieve maximum output. Machine utilisation is clearly displayed in the Varioterminal.

AutomaticallyeconomicalThe Variotronic contains state-of-the-art electronic functions that further increase the economical use of the Fendt Katana. For example, the automatic cutting height control for the maize header guar-antees a thorough cut. Automatic maximum out-put control and automated steering ensure maxi-mum utilisation of the forage harvester. And with VarioDoc, all operations are carefully documented.

Precise work For maximum area coverage, precise work is the key to success. The VarioGuide automated steering makes this easy for operators. Reception using the latest satellite technology is reliable and stable. An accuracy of up to +/- 20 cm is possible.

EverythingdocumentedThe Fendt documentation system VarioDoc logs all relevant data, such as worked area or fuel consumption, during operation. The data is then transferred to the computer wirelessly. This way, you always have an overview of the completed work.

Precision in operation

It is very easy to set the boundary for a particular area and the wayline offset with the Varioterminal.

You can achieve maximum area coverage through precision work with the VarioGuide automated steering, for example, using the AB mode. The automatic maximum output control automatically controls the forward ground speed of the Fendt Katana dependent on the crop density.

Uniform crop flow and best chopping results

The chopped material flows efficiently and with a high throughput. From the header, to the unique swinging frame for the feeding units, to the six feed rollers, to the large closed cut-terhead, to the powerful discharge system, the Fendt Katana has been designed for high out-put. The refined technology of the chopping units also guarantees highest quality of the chopped material.

Six feed rollers for high compression

The six hydraulic driven feed rollers guide the crop uniformly to the cutterhead. A spring assembly creates high compression for a precise cut. The cutting length is infinitely adjustable from 4 to 42 mm, which allows an optimum cutting length to be set, for example, for fodder or use in biogas facilities.

Swinging frame swung out Swinging frame in middle position Swinging frame swung out

Uniform crop flow and best chopping results

Intelligent coupling with the swinging frameHeaders are coupled to the unique Fendt swing-ing frame. It is support on three rolls and is actively controlled via a cylinder that is coupled with sensors on the maize header. The pivot point is located in the centre of the feed channel. The advantage is that even when the header is tilted, the cross-section remains almost the same size and the crop is uniformly fed to the feed rollers.

Perfect on the groundThe maize header is available with either eight, ten or twelve rows. The cutting height can be pre-selected using the Varioterminal. Assisted by feel-ers, the header actively follows the contours of the ground and keeps the height of the header con-stant, both laterally and longitudinally. The three metre wide pick-up features active ground pres-sure control. Even at high speeds, the pick-up automatically adjusts to ground contours using two gauge wheels, so grass is picked up com-pletely.

Six feed rollers for effective crop feedCrop feed over six feed rollers guarantees opti-mal pre-compression of the chopped material and produces high quality chopping results. The 770-mm width of the rollers permits feeding of large quantities of material. The cutting length can be infinitely adjusted from four to 42 mm from the driver seat. Thanks to the independent hydro-static header and feed roller drivelines, the header speed can be optimally adapted to the harvesting conditions. The cutting length remains constant.

For emergenciesThere is a large distance between the metal detec-tor and the cutterhead to allow for enough time to detect metal objects, even with long cutting lengths. If foreign objects enter the feed area, the main drive stops immediately, completely auto-matically.

A perfect start for optimum crop flow

The header is coupled to an innovative swinging frame. It actively swings on three rollers and a cylinder above the frame and adjusts itself to the position of the header. The pivot point in this ingenious system lies in the centre of the feed channel; when the frame

swings, the cross-section remains almost the same size and the crop flows uniformly to the feed rollers.

Three-metre wide pick-up with gauge wheels that fold up hydraulically. The maize header is available with either ten or twelve rows. For on-road driving, the header folds up hydraulically, so it can be brought into transport position quickly.

AlwaysrazorsharpThe automatic knife sharpening system quickly returns the hardened knives to their full sharpness. The whetstone for the knives is readjusted on both sides so the knives are sharpened uniformly. The sharpening time can be conveniently adjusted in the Varioterminal.

The biggest cutterheadThe heart of the Fendt Katana is the closed cutter-head which, with a 720-mm diameter, is currently the biggest on the market. The high inertia of the drum makes it especially smooth running and allows it to compensate for differences in material flow. Its large diameter also results in a very high cutting frequency. Combined with the v-shaped arrangement of the 28 knives, this guarantees excellent quality of the chopped material as well as uniform crop transfer to the V-cracker and discharge blower.

More surface area for thorough kernel processing The kernels are cracked highly efficiently in the innovative V-Cracker. The meshing cylinders have a special design that provides a large friction sur-face. Since the rollers rotate at the same speed, their power requirement, and therefore also fuel consumption, is low. When switching from maize to grass, the cracker can be swung out of the way electrohydraulically in the shortest time.

Optimum adjustment to cropPrecompression can be adjusted hydraulically in six stages in the Varioterminal. This allows the cracker rollers to react optimally to the consist-ency and volume of the crop. This guarantees optimum crop flow with outstanding kernel processing.

Big, ingenious and flexible

Conventional design with simple cracking length

Rotating V-Cracker When switching between crops, for example from

maize to grass and vice versa, the V-Cracker can remain in the machine for short periods. The V-Cracker can be quickly rotated back behind the discharge blower electrohydraulically. To prevent bearing wear caused by shock loads and vibrations, the belts continue to drive the V-Cracker without function. This rotating procedure can be preset in the Varioterminal and then conveniently triggered per pushbutton located in the maintenance area, when required. The grass chute is then automatically brought into position. Removing the V-Cracker is also very easy, since the mainte-nance area has plenty of space for accessibility.

On the V-Cracker, the cracking length is more than twice as long.

The cutterhead, with a 720-mm diameter, has a very high cutting frequency due to its enormous size. This guarantees gentle chopping, even with large quantities of material, and guarantees an optimal cutting frequency.

V-Cracker guarantees thorough kernel processing Fendt has chosen an ingenious design for the V-Cracker. Through the use of rollers fitted with corrugated discs, the cra-

cking length of the cracker is more than twice as long as on conventional rollers. Since the discs mesh, the speeds on the inside and outside of the disc are different. This results in highly efficient and thorough cracking of the maize kernels. If necessary, the cracker discs can be replaced individually.

Discharge

Flexible spoutThe spout on the Fendt Katana can be rotated 210° and quickly changed over to the other side of the machine for unloading without a problem. The speed at which it rotates can be preselected in the Varioterminal and adapted to the prevailing harvesting conditions. The height can be adjusted hydraulically to up to six meters and even the highest transport vehicles can be loaded. Thanks to the excellent view to the discharge area, it is possible to fill the trailer precisely.

Save powerThe discharge blower, an open rotor with upright v-shaped elements, moves the crop to the trailer with little effort. The decisive factor for optimum unloading capacity and discharge distance is the right setting of the blower. Fuel consumption is kept at a minimum thanks to the efficient dis-charge system.

Monitoring and safety Using the standard specification camera, opera-tors can monitor the filling level in the transport vehicle from a screen in the cab of the forage harvester. Furthermore, an optional transmit-ter unit on the screen of the forage harvester can transmit the camera image to an external receiver unit. When reversing, the camera image in the forage harvester is automatically switched to the standard-equipped reversing camera.

Everything must go

Even with an unloading height of up to six metres, operators have the chute flap in full view. For optimized trailer filling, the spout can be extended, when using wide headers.

Using the multi-function lever, the spout can be quickly rotated to the other side of the machine with the touch of a button.

The discharge blower is designed as an open rotor with upright v-shaped elements. The blower's clearance to the back wall and the discharge opening can be adjusted.

Driveline and vehicle design

The new power of the Fendt Katana 85The 850-hp Fendt Katana 85 has a new 21-litre V12 engine from MTU. Fendt and MTU collaborated on the development of the engine and adapted it to the requirements of the forage harvester. The tank system has a modular design to permit high per-formance over long working hours: you can either fill up 1,250 litres of diesel and 200 litres of water as a silage additive or a full 1,500 litres of diesel.

Drive ahead economicallyThe Fendt Katana 65 is powered by a 16-litre V8 Mercedes Benz engine, whose performance curve has been adapted to forage harvester operations. For compliance with emissions standard EURO Stage 3b (Tier IV interim), the forage harvester with 653 hp is equipped with the fuel-saving SCR technology. Fendt thus offers maximum profita-bility through low fuel consumption with environ-mentally friendly technology.

AlwaystherighttemperatureThe reliable cooling system, always keeps the lon-gitudinally mounted engine running in the opti-mum temperature range. The intake areas of the large cooling unit are continually cleaned through active dust extraction, so there is no build-up to obstruct air intake. You benefit from long mainte-nance intervals.

Powerful engine

The 16-litre 8-cylinder Mercedes-Benz engine is efficient, powerful and reliable. It is equipped with SCR technology for maximum fuel-efficiency. Exhaust is after-treated with AdBlue®, a 32.5 percent solution of urea, which converts nitrous oxides NOx into non-toxic nitrogen and water. The consumption of AdBlue, the standard urea-water solution used by commercial vehicles, lies at about four percent of the diesel consumption. This can vary depending on the operation. AdBlue® is available at filling stations or through AGCO Parts.

The new MTU engine delivers precisely the performance characteristics that powerful forage harvester operations demand. The 21- litre V12 engine delivers a whopping 850 hp and already complies with the TIER4 Final emissions standard. The engine does not need any additional resources, such as AdBlue.

Driveline and vehicle design

The cutterhead and the discharge blower are driven by a belt drive.

Switching between Eco mode and Power mode takes place through a two-speed

gearshift assembly in the angular gearbox. During light operations in grass, the engine ope-rates at a low speed in Eco mode. The speed of the chopping units, however, is still maintained at the required speed in the optimum range.

V-Cracker driveline

EverythinginmotionThanks to the hydrostatic drive, the speed for the header can be regulated independent and can be optimally adjusted to the prevailing conditions. The cutterhead, the V-Cracker and the discharge blower are driven by a belt drive.

EfficienthydrostaticgrounddriveThe hydrostatic drive on the Fendt Katana, together with the innovative engine technology and electronics, guarantees highly efficient opera-tions. The front axle is driven by independent wheel motors with integral brakes. This space- saving design creates space for the all-important large-sized chopping units.

Save some powerFull engine power is not always required. When doing light work, such as in grass, the Eco mode is activated, which reduces the engine speed from 2,000 to a fuel-saving 1,600 rpm. The work-ing speed of the feeding system, the drum and the discharge system remain constant, which main-tains a high cutting frequency and results in optimal throughput.

Driveline and vehicle design

40 km/h with full suspension When driving on the road, the oil volume from the steering axle is transferred to the front drive wheels, so the machine moves forward faster. The hydraulic suspension on the rear axle is unique and provides high ride comfort in the field and on the road. You can fully utilise the 40 km/h transport speed and the machine can be moved from site to site faster.

Top manoeuvrabilityThe rear axle of the Fendt Katana has an excellent steering angle. Together with the compact design of the machine, this enables very high manoeu-vrability. Manoeuvring is fast and easy in every situation.

Move ahead on all pathsThe Fendt Katana has traction in difficult ground conditions. The hydrostatic drive for the steer-ing and drive axles controls the oil volume and can distribute it to all four wheels in the field. Electronic anti-slip control on the drive axle adjusts the wheel torque to the ground condi-tions, which minimises front wheel slip. The differential lock on the steering axle prevents the rear wheels from spinning. Four-wheel drive is standard specification on the Fendt forage harvester. The excellent steering angle of the axle ensures excellent manoeuvrability.

Comfort makes you faster

• Fastmovingbetweensiteswitha transport speed of 40 km/h

• Anti-slipcontrolminimisesfront wheel slip

• Differentiallockintherearaxlefor best traction

• Hydrostaticfour-wheeldriveisstandard specification

The rear axle has suspension to absorb shock loads in the field and on the road. That protects both the operator and the machine.

Compact design and extremely manoeuvrable

The headers are mounted very close to the vehicle, which reduces the load on the front axle. That minimises soil compaction. The optimised frame design in combina-tion with a large steering angle on the rear axle, make the forage harvester excep-tionally manoeuvrable.
