CEO’s Corner… Employees,

It was my pleasure to be able to issue incentive bonus checks to our employees last week for the fiscal year

2013. All employees earned 3% out of a 4% potential bonus.

As a team, we achieved the following:

Exceeded the annual net income goal

Exceeded the Quality / Core Measures goal

Exceeded the Inpatient Patient Satisfaction goal.

As a team, we missed the Emergency Department Patient Satisfaction goal. As a team, we will work to achieve this goal this year. This

goal is not just for the Emergency Department. It is impacted by everyone that works at Colquitt Regional Medical Center, including the

inpatient floors, the pharmacy, patient access, human resources, nutritional services and information technology. Did you know that great-

er than half of our inpatients are admitted through the doors of the Emergency Department? So the question today is “What can you do?”

What can each of us do to support the patients of the Emergency Department? How can we manage up that staff? How can we improve

the patient’s experience? I challenge you to work together as a TEAM to exceed our goals. It’s a new year and I’m excited about our

future success!

Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Sincerely,

Jim Matney

Pay Day Winner The winner of the S.O.P. Pay Day for the month of October 2013

is…

Tim Elder, Facility Operations

Tim is the winner of $25.00. His name was submitted by Kayla

Morgan for “Thank you all so much for helping me today! You all go

above and beyond. Duct tape fixes everything!” Tim displayed the

Standard of RESPONSE. Congratulations, Tim, and to all employ-

ees whose names were submitted in the S.O.P. boxes for exempli-

fying a Standard of Performance.

From my heart to yours…Rev. Hugh Ward, Chaplain Christmas was about to break over us here in Moultrie some decade and a half ago. I was a pastor making

house calls on folks no longer able to sit in a pew on Sundays. Parking my car at the distinctive home which

was the residence of our long time Administrator Nora Manning, I went to the door wondering if the 99 year

old would be able to see me.

Edith King, her companion and a member of our Hospital Auxiliary, opened the door and ushered me into her

presence. She was ensconced in hospital bed, propped up with pillows on both sides of her frail body. I said to

Mrs. Manning, “Christmas is a ‘coming!” And she shot back without missing a beat, “And there is nothing you

can do about it either!” We have turned the pages of the calendar and here we are looking Christmas full in the face. Christmas is a

‘coming and the goose (or the turkey) is getting fat.For me the miracle of Christmas may be this: it survives the efforts of those who

would profane it. Every Yuletide we see a new crop of flim-flam artists, abominable new toys, and multitudes of extravagant gift ideas.

In spite of such practices, the spirit of Christmas triumphs over those who would ill-use the season: acts of kindness outshine acts of

greed, loving deeds outnumber selfish ones, and the Old Scrooges of this world are touched deeply by the needs of the Tiny Tims of

our world. Perhaps this has something to do with the story rehearsed each Advent Season.

Every December we retell the same ancient story of the Babe who was born in a little town in Palestine and bedded in a manger. This

baby was a special gift of love to the world. In some strange and enduring ways this story of an infant has an effect on us—or at least

most of us. Loudspeakers in supermarkets and drugstores blare away with, “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”. Salvation Army bell ring-

ers shout,, “God bless you!” over the cacophony of their clanging bells. Jaycees fill up empty stockings. Marines give toys to tots.

Churches and civic groups give away meals and coats that warm the hearts of the friendless and homeless. You, too, could add to

this list a host of things that we ourselves strive to do through the hospital and for our community.

For these reasons and many more, I yearn that we all could join Ebenezer Scrooge’s confession in the last stave of Dicken’s A Christ-

mas Carol, “I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.

Pay Day Winner The winner of the S.O.P. Pay Day for the month of November 2013 is…

Sheila Brown, Surgical/Orthopedics

Sheila is the winner of $25.00. Her name was submitted by

Stephanie Ellis for “Being mentioned on a comment card.”

Sheila displayed the Standard of RESPONSE. Congratula-

tions, Sheila, and to all employees whose names were submit-

ted in the S.O.P. boxes for exemplifying a Standard of Per-

formance.

The Freshstart Program Update

I have had 12 people join the Freshstart Tobacco cessation program and of those 12, 5 have

completed all four counseling/educational sessions. Four individuals have completely kicked

the habit, 7 others have significantly weaned themselves down and are very close to quitting

altogether. Only one had a relapse and stated that it was due to stress, but is planning another

quit attempt. All of them have stated that the gum has helped them quit. Blake Williams has

been checking on them frequently to give positive re-enforcement and promote physical activi-

ty to ensure their quit attempt was successful.

I am very proud of these individuals!

Rita Gay Director of Respiratory Care Services

Here are a couple of testimonies from employees who have “Kicked the Habit”:

I quit smoking on November 11, 2013. I decided to try without the help of patches, gum, or medication. So far I have succeeded in my chance to better my health. I do feel better and the trials are still there, but weighing my determination against being a failure have made it a little easier. I think the hardest part has been break-ing the habit associated with a morning cup of coffee or a drive in my car. Thanks for the incentive to break this habit.
