The Superintendent of the Space ScienceDivision is responsible for the comprehensivescientific and technical leadership of theDivision, including fiscal integrity andadministrative operations. The Space ScienceDivision conducts a broad-spectrum research,development, test and evaluation program insolar-terrestrial physics, astrophysics, upper/middle atmospheric science, and astronomyrelated to understanding, observing, and usingthe space environment. The Superintendentplans, organizes, directs, and coordinates thescientifc program of the Division to satisfybroadly defned Naval Research Laboratory,Department of the Navy, and Departmentof Defense space science research anddevelopment objectives.
As the Superintendent, you will:
• Plan and direct both short- and long-termresearch and development programsassigned to the Laboratory.
• Def ine research goa ls , budge taryrequirements, and resources, includingreview the objectives and content ofproposed research programs for technicalsoundness , resou rce impac t , andLaboratory suitability.
• Serve as senior technical advisor andconsultant to the Directorate Head,Director of Research, and CommandingOffcer for space science and spaceweathermodels.
• Conceive, plan, and formulate the scientifcprogramof theDivision in pursuance of theneeds of the Navy.
• Maintain a direct liaison with appropriateoffces within the Department of the Navy,and other sponsor offces in formulatingresearch plans and programs.
