Stewardship Moment
January 24, 2021 - 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” - MARK 1:17 Jesus’ call to “Follow me” is a call to all Christians! The call is in the here and now, in our present circumstances, not when we think we are “ready” or have everything in order. Good stewardship of our God-given gifts means that things aren’t always going to go according to our schedule and that God has a much better plan in store for each of us.

We need only ask Saint Joseph for the grace of graces: our conversion.
Let us now make our prayer to him:
Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. To you God entrusted his only Son; in you Mary placed her trust; with you Christ became man.
Blessed Joseph, to us too, show yourself a father and guide us in the path of life. Obtain for us grace, mercy and courage, and defend us from every evil. Amen.
Given in Rome, at Saint John Lateran, on 8 December, Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, in the year 2020, the eighth of my Pontificate.
Franciscus

ciples of all nations. To apply or receive additional information, contact Fr. Ross Laframboise at
[email protected] or call at 701-404-5411. Previous discipleship experience is required
Dear parishioners and friends abroad,
Reflection Points:
It’s never too late to change. Nineveh had long since fallen at the time the book of Jonah was written, but it was still synonymous in people’s minds with cruelty and oppression. The idea that its people ever would have repented was unimaginable. But the author insists we imagine it. Not only do they repent of their horrible deeds, but they do so dramatically, donning sackcloth and fasting. So complete is their conver-sion that God promptly relents. God forgives even the most heinous crimes. Let this give us all hope in the power of repentance.
St. Paul offers us today, “I tell you,” he warns, “time is running out” (1 Corinthians 7:29). He pleads with his audience to immediately do the opposite of whatever they are doing now. Hearing the gospel should turn their lives around 180 degrees, for “this is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand” (Mark 1:15). Jesus Christ is with us now and he completely reorients our lives. We must change our per-spective. We must be converted.
We can imagine what life was like for the four fishermen in the Gospel. Most days they went out to sea, caught netfuls of fish, sold them at market, then went home to their families. Nothing wrong with any of that. But with Jesus in their midst, this whole routine fell away. Every bit of it paled in importance to spending every minute of every day with the one who changes the world. Moreover, they were now charged with changing the world as well, while pursuing a wholly different kind of quarry.
Lent 2021
It is hard to believe, but our Lenten journey is less than a month away now, beginning with Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2021. In a recent conversation with the Pastoral Council, we have decided to conduct a study on the theme of prayer. I will be using a resource that is tried, tested, and true: Oremus. It is one of the experiences that has been so well received over the years since its production, that I have made it part of my arsenal with my own people who come to me for spiritual direction.
What is it? Do you find it easy to pray? Do you hear God’s voice in your daily life and know how to respond? For most of us the answer is no, and we struggle to find even a few minutes every day to pray. The good news is that you can overcome these difficulties. Oremus teaches you the essentials of an effective and fruitful prayer life. Over eight weeks you will learn the simple yet profound steps of Catholic prayer. Following Church Tradition and the wisdom of the saints, you will learn to talk to God and hear his voice in Scripture, in your heart, and in ordinary moments. You will become more aware of his close presence, will learn to overcome distractions and dryness, and will recognize desolation and consolation as normal prayer experiences. As you grow closer to God, you will also grow in your relationship with those around you.
Because we need to order study guides, we ask that those who have interest would reach out to the parish office to register, sharing with us your current email and telephone number. The cost of the study set is $16, which also entitles you to online video access to this program for one year. We will meet for eight Sundays over February, March, and April. The deadline to register: January 31.
Spiritual Reading: Conclusion to Corde Patris, by Pope Francis
“Get up, take the child and his mother” (Mt 2:13), God told Saint Joseph.
The aim of this Apostolic Letter is to increase our love for this great saint, to encourage us to implore his intercession and to imi-tate his virtues and his zeal.
Indeed, the proper mission of the saints is not only to obtain miracles and graces, but to intercede for us before God, like Abra-ham26 and Moses27, and like Jesus, the “one mediator” (1 Tim 2:5), who is our “advocate” with the Father (1 Jn 2:1) and who “always lives to make intercession for [us]” (Heb 7:25; cf. Rom 8:34).
The saints help all the faithful “to strive for the holiness and the perfection of their particular state of life”.28 Their lives are con-crete proof that it is possible to put the Gospel into practice.
Jesus told us: “Learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart” (Mt 11:29). The lives of the saints too are examples to be imi-tated. Saint Paul explicitly says this: “Be imitators of me!” (1 Cor 4:16).29 By his eloquent silence, Saint Joseph says the same.
Before the example of so many holy men and women, Saint Augustine asked himself: “What they could do, can you not also do?” And so he drew closer to his definitive conversion, when he could exclaim: “Late have I loved you, Beauty ever ancient, ever new!”30
