Elderly living in old age home and over 90 in Pokhara city are enjoying free taxi
service since a month. Generous taxi driver Chit Ale is providing this service for
older people of Pokhara, Kaski district. “Many people laugh at me because they
have not tasted the satisfaction of getting blessings from older people”, said Mr.
Ale.

Newly elected people’s representatives of Majhuwagadhi Municipality of Khotang
district have started to provide old age allowance at the door steps of elderly.
Earlier, the beneficiaries had to visit municipality office for their OAA. The
candidates also felicitated Ms. Dambar Kumari Acharya, 109, and Mr. Manisundar
Baghimaya, 104 during the visit to distribute OAA.

Older people of Putalibazaar Municipality, Syangja district became gloomy even
though they received 4 months’ old age allowance. The elderly were very
confident that the amount will be doubled as per the promises made by
candidates of local election. “There is not any source for additional OAA but we
have decided to facilitate the process for elders to receive their Allowance” said
the concerned local authority of municipality. There are 15,218 OAA
beneficiariesin the municipality.

Older persons of Bardiya, Dadeldhura and Surkhet districts complained about the
ordeal they have to go through for receiving old age allowance (OAA) through
bank. The older persons have to walk for many days to reach the headquarters
and queue for hours at Bank. So, they are demanding authorities to distribute
OAA at their local government offices, not banks.

Dudhkunda, the only municipality of Solukhumbu district, has decided for free
medical service at the door step of the elderly above 70 yrs. Newly elected Mayor,
Mr. Namgel Jungbo Sherpa including other people’s representatives of the
municipality have decided for this in their first official meeting after the election.
They also assured that the elderly with serious health problems will be treated
freely at hospital.

Porter Service for Elderly

Makwanpur, July 16, 2017
Raksirang rural municipality of Makwanpur district has decided to initiate a
campaign “Save Older Parents” from the next fiscal year. The municipality is
spread over large rural areas with road network and difficult to reach. Hiring
porters to carry loads on their back is a common practice. Therefore, it decided to
give Rs. 3,000 to the person who carries sick persons above 70 to hospital.
Raksirang is one of the backward municipalities of the district where majority of
residents are Chepang- a marginalized indigenous group. “Elderly are dying
untimely due to delay in reaching hospital as the municipality has no
transportation facility. So, we have decided for this campaign” said Mr. Raj Kumar
Malla, Chairperson of the municipality.
