FMU2 Floor Mixing Unit 2

The FMU2 Floor Mixing Unit 2 is a pre-assembled competitively priced manifold designed for underfloor heating systems.

Included in the FMU2 Floor Mixing Unit 2 is a TM3 Thermostatic Control Group, Lowara Ecocirc circulating pump, temperature gauge, mounting brackets and swivel joints for connection to the manifold assembly.

Available from 2 way - 12 way fixed at 210mm with options of either flowmeters or locksheilds on the flow rail. Both the flowmeters (FM) and locksheilds (LS) are double regulating with isolation function. The return rail has a blue capped integrated electrothermic body (ready for the electrothermic head) per circuit.

The TM3 thermostatic mixer included in the FMU2 Floor Mixing Unit 2 ensures that hot water from the heat source and return water from the underfloor circuit are mixed together in the valve body to produce a range of temperatures from 20oC to 70oC. This range of temperatures suits a wide range of underfloor heating applications, from commissioning new floor screeds to operating with very thick floor screeds in commercial applications.

Another key component to the FMU2 is the Lowara Ecocirc pump. High efficiency single wet rotor circulators with fixed or variable speed and threaded connections. The Ecocirc is a high efficiency circulator using a shaft less spherical motor design. This design combine’s high efficiency and low noise. The Ecocirc is, ErP 2015 compliant. It also has a high magnetite resistance due to the revolutionary Anti-Block technology prolonging the life span of the pump.

Thermostatic Mixing Valve Exploded Diagram

The FMU2 Floor Mixing Unit 2 incorporates a TM3 thermostatic mixer which ensures accurate temperate control of underfloor heating. The unique design of the internal mixing valve components ensure that hot water from the heat source and return water from the underfloor circuit are mixed together in the valve body to produce a temperature range between 20°C to 70°C. This temperature range suits a range of underfloor heating applications from commissioning new floor screeds to operating with very thick screed in commercial applications. How the TM3 works - High Temperature

Thermostatic head set to a high temperature, allows almost all of the primary hot water from the heat source through the valve with only a small amount of return water to maintain the temperature set on the head, up to 70oC if required.

How the TM3 works - Low Temperature

Thermostatic head set to a low temperature (e.g. for commissioning with a new floor screed). The mixing valve has almost closed off the primary hot water and is mixing a higher proportion of return water into the mixing chamber which reduces the mixed water temperature right down to 20oC if required.

Once the total rate of the system has been calculated:

Qip = total system = (P [W] x 0.86) / (∆Tip)

Where P is the total calculated heat demand in Watts and ∆Tip is the calculated temperature difference across the

system the pressure drop for the mixing unit can be read off on the graph above. The mixing unit pressure drop curves show the Flow Increase Valve settings from fully closed to fully open and allow the installer/ designer to choose a suitable rate and pressure drop to suit the system. Together with the calculated pressure drop of the

system and manifold, the pump setting can then be chosen.

The tables below show two examples of required system output against the Flow Increase Valve setting based on assumed values of temperature, temperature drop and pressure drop for the system for guidance.

2 Magnetite and Sludge can both be found in heating systems and both have magnetic properties. This sludge or magnetite can accumulate within the permanent magnetic parts of high efficiency pumps and can cause failures. The Anti-Block Technology separates the main flow of the pumped media completely from the permanent magnetic parts and thus eliminates the chances of failure.

The main flow of the pumped media (blue) and its magnetite and sludge (red) does not come into contact with the permanent magnet rotor.

FMU2 Floor Mixing Unit

FMU2 Floor Mixing Unit with low temperature manifold including flowmeters

Designed for the underfloor heating market, supplied with our TM3 control group and manifold with an option of two to twelve circuits. The control group incorporates a Lowara Ecocirc Class A pump and a thermostatic mixing valve with remote actuation giving accurate mixed temperatures between 20-70oC.

The flow rail has a double regulating red sleeved 0 - 4 l/min flow meter per circuit. Return rail has a blue capped integrated electrothermic body.

The FMU2 Floor Mixing Unit pump is ErP 2015 compliant, variable speed with antiblock technology - thus removing magnetite and sludge which accumulate and therefore prolonging the lifespan of the pump.

Valves Kvs 3 - 4.8, 10 - 18KW. Temperature range adjustment 20 - 70oC.

The RCE is an electronic temperature controller that has three modes of operation; Weather Compensation, Fixed Point and Modulating. It can be used for low temperature UnderFloor heating and cooling and high temperature radiator heating. Includes electronic control unit, remote mounting box, 2 sensors, probe holders and extension connector. The RCE can control 230V or 0-10V mixing actuator.
