Page 1 of 2 This Flushing Procedure is specific to changes from non food grade oils to Bel-Ray food grade NSF H1 oils 1. Clean and inspect the following components:  Gear case exterior for cracks  Seals for leakage and wear, replace if needed  The sight gauge/window if one is present  Vent or desiccant b reather for damage, etc. Change if needed.  All grease fittings  If the gear case has a dip stick, make sure it is not bent and that it properly seals when in place. 2. Refer to the manual regarding questions for replacement parts, as this is the best time to replace any damaged parts. 3. Take a sample o f the current gear oil being used directly from the gear case and send the sample to the Bel-Ray Lab for analysis. This will help to determine the internal conditions of the gear case. 4. Drain (20 – 25 %) of the existing gear oil. Once drained, re-plug the drain port. Add (20 – 25 %) Bel-Ray No-Tox PL PLUS (item # 76000)  to the remaining gear oil in the gear case. Run this mixture in the gear case for eight (8) hours. Monitor the temperature of the gear case, if it seems to be running hot, reduce the load and continue running for the rest of the eight (8) hours. When finished, drain the gear case. While draining the gear oil and Bel-Ray No-Tox PL PLUS mixture observe the gear oil/flush mixture. If it is very dark in color and contains visible contaminants, you are seeing varnish, sludge and deposits being removed. Once the gear case is fully drained, re-plug the drain port. 5. Partially fill the gear case (30 – 40 %) of the way to the full line with Bel-Ray No-Tox PL PLUS. Run the gear case under no load for 10 minutes. Drain the Bel-Ray No-Tox PL PLUS. (While draining, you may observe the flushing oil being dark in color and containing contaminants, this may be due to the voids and cavities in the gear case where varnish, sludge and deposits have built up over time.) If not satisfied with the cleanliness of the flushing oil, repeat this process until clean. Once drained, re-plug the drain port. 6. Partially fill gear case (30 – 40 %) o f the way to the full line with the proper viscosity of Bel- Ray No-Tox gear oil for your specific application. If you have any doubts, refer to the Bel- Ray survey of your equipment or the OEM manual (lubrication section). Run for ten minutes and drain. This process will remove the remaining Bel-Ray No-Tox PL PLUS and any loose contaminants remaining in the voids and cavities. This also insures that the viscosity of the new Bel-Ray No-Tox gear oil will not be compromised by the flush. Once drained, re-plug the drain port. Enclosed Gear Cases Bel-Ray Company Inc. 1. Clean and inspect the following components:  Gear case exterior for cracks  Seals for leakage and wear, replace if needed  The sight gauge/window if one is present  Vent or desiccant breather for damage, etc. Change if needed.  All grease fittings  If the gear case has a dip stick, make sure it is not bent and that it properly seals when

in place.

7. Before filling the gear case with new Bel-Ray No-Tox NSF H-1 approved gear oil, inspectthe gear case one last time as per step one. Be careful not to contaminate the new Bel-RayNo-Tox gear oil prior to the initial fill. The use of OIL SAFE ™ containers for transferring theBel-Ray No-Tox gear oil from storage to your gear case greatly reduces the chance of oilcontamination.

8. Fill with the proper viscosity of Bel-Ray No-Tox gear oil for your specific application.

9. Continue with inspections, cleaning and sampling as required. Oil samples should be sent tothe Bel-Ray lab for analysis and condition monitoring.
