The Gallery Space open Festival operating hours

Shape your Festival visit to include an interlude in our main exhibition area – The Gallery space – a magnificent space built solely for the Ergon Energy Flower, Food & Wine Festival. Fresh and contemporary every year, our ephemeral gallery is designed around one common, unifying theme in 2012: Natural Architecture.

The emerging Natural Architecture art movement aims to create a more harmonious relationship between man and nature by exploring what it means to design with nature in mind. The idea of ‘natural architecture’ will serve as the inspiration for the collection of floral displays, creative installations and visual art inside The Gallery Space.

help The FrienDship Tree TO GrOw (site k) By International Guest Alison Bradley The defining reveal within The Gallery space is a creation by 2012 Festival guest, Alison Bradley. Born in Glasgow,

Alison’s birth city emblem includes a tree that ‘never grew’. In Toowoomba, Alison has recreated the foundations of this tree as a friendship-symbol for those affected by recent tragedy. You (our Festival visitors) are invited to help the Friendship Tree to Grow. Place your message on leaves supplied, then watch the foliage of friendship flourish!

Scotland-based Alison Bradley is a multi-award-winning floral designer. Award categories Most Innovative Designer, Most Contemporary Designer and Best in Show at the year 2000 Contemporary Design Exhibition in England are among her UK and international accolades.

The effervescent Alison Bradley is currently adviser to BBC Scotland for floral design and editor of award-winning Fusion Flowers Magazine, which she founded and circulates in 80+ countries. Alison has lectured on floral design and gardening, and delivered more than 2,000 demonstrations around the globe.

Works created for the much anticipated annual Floral Design Competition accompany Alison Bradley’s spectacle inside The Gallery Space. In keeping with the overarching theme of Natural Architecture, competitors have applied their skills to category-specific inspirations:

• Sticks in the Mud (designer’s choice), • Sticks Around (team display), • Cocoon (artist choice) and • Sticks and Stones (student entrants).

Convened by internationally renowned floral designer, Mark Pampling, along with guest judge, Bart Hassam (an equally respected, internationally-award-winning designer and former

Floral design Competition champion) this floral spectacular attracts the pick of the bunch. Australia’s floral design professionals and students have expressed and challenged their creativity, innovation and craftsmanship.

Watch for flying flowers and foliage in this popular Festival feature – a fun round robin showdown where skilled designers are pitted against each other to craft unique floral masterpieces on The Gallery space stage (site m), all while working to a time limit.

Yet ready, steady, snip! (with a Twist!) is planned in 2012, offering sights, smells and even tastes! The grand final round will see two floral designers go head-to-head each creating a table setting for two audience guests. With styling underway, Celebrity Chef Fast Ed (as seen on Channel 7’s Better Homes & Gardens) will join the frivolity, simultaneously working against-the-clock to prepare a course for serving to the table. Take a seat and enjoy this Festival-favourite, reliant on your wise vote!

Talk about fresh! True to its name, in 2012 this Festival is bringing guests a new palate-pleasing experience – Farm to plate (site r). We’re joined by one of Australia’s best-loved TV chefs and food authors, Fast Ed (as seen on Channel 7’s Better Homes & Gardens) whose achievable, time-conscious cookery is based on the motto: “when you do less, the ingredients can do more!”

Fast Ed’s live demonstrations are flanked by an exhibition of culinary skill from Southern Qld Institute of TAFE’s own master chef Mark White

and delicious recipes from the range of ‘gluten and grain-free’ guru, Tania Hubbard. Choose the right wine to take to dinner with the help of wine appreciation presenter, Tricia Evans who’ll also touch on the intricacies of wine and cheese.

hungry for more? on Sunday, Farm to Plate visitors can sample the tastes and textures of South East Queensland’s burgeoning edible cottage industries at a showcasing of delights from the Southern downs and Granite Belt, darling downs and the South Burnett regions.

remains one of this country’s most respected artists. From daddy Cool to Mondo Rock, as a solo artist, or as songwriter of A-grade classics such as Eagle Rock, Cool World and A Touch of Paradise, Ross Wilson & The Peaceniks will have you dancing in your seat.

lior burst onto the Australian music scene in 2005 with his stunning debut album, Autumn Flow, recorded and released entirely independently. The album has become one of the most successful independent debuts in Australian history with sales surpassing platinum. Most artists set out with an ambition to build a career based on musical credibility and integrity whilst maintaining an independence and individuality in their craft. lior is certainly one of the rare breed that has achieved this whilst garnering a great degree of success and critical acclaim.

James reYne

James Reyne is recognised as one of Australia’s premier performers. James’ musical career initially took hold in the early 80’s when he and

some friends formed the band Australian Crawl. With his prolific song writing and unique vocal style, James led Australian Crawl to the top of the Australian music scene and the band’s popularity skyrocketed. The band won numerous music and video awards and James’ solo career was no different with his first self-titled solo album going triple platinum, delivering three top 10 singles.

HeadingKids Play Space open 10:00am to dusk daily

Family-friendly festival? Absolutely! Feast your eyes on this: an amazing kids play space (site s) is waiting for your children – a world where they can imagine, build, discover, draw, dig, cook and create.

With a good measure of fun and a pinch of creativity, kids will be whisked into mini master chefs as they participate in the Woolworths Fresh Food Kids in the Kitchen workshops. ddSWQ Medicare local has them hand-picking the herbs and vegetables they’ll be using in each session and – courtesy of local gardening guru, Brian Sams – the Festival has sessions that

give the children even more hands-on horticulture practice.

A giant mural awaits the unleashing of artistic contributions and a little competitive spirit will add just the right spice to Kath dickson Family Centre’s play dough sculpture challenge and mini craft gardens.

With Geckoes Wildlife, your young rangers can get close to our furry, slimy and scaly native friends: pat a python, feel a frog or stroke a squirrel glider. Bunning’s dIY workshops will test budding builders and little green-thumbs will have fun with worms and composting.

Just a reminder to ‘the big kids’ that children must be supervised at all times in the Play Space, which is also an alcohol free zone!
