This team has been pre-senting Management of Office Emergencies for Dental Pro-fessionals since the 90’s and Along with Dental Specialty ACLS courses, helped present the original curriculum for the

Dental Airway Course with members of the FSOMS board. Shaun has presented programs at State, National and International Conferences and has appeared on FETN, Pulse, 24-7 EMS, Medic Monthly, and Emergency Medical Update Videos.

ACLS/BCLS Update 2018ACLS Update For The Dental Professional- Emergency Medical Consultants takes the 2018 ACLS guidelines and makes them relevant to the OMS office. The AHA now mandates completion of a pretest, which will be sent to participants, prior to the course. This program is designed to review the latest guidelines for managing cardiac emergencies in both perfusing and cardiac arrested patients. Following the update, participants will progress through cases involving Airway compro-mise, Acute Coronary Syndromes, Stroke, and Cardiac Arrest; all as they may re-late to the Oral Surgeon. The additional CPR Certification Skills,(Child and Infant CPR and Choking) can be added to the end of the ACLS course for those who require BLS CPR certification as well. ACLS Participants must have the 2018 Text (available when registering) and complete the pre-test (supplied in hard copy or via email) prior to entering the course.

Rick Ritt, BS, MA, EMT-PARAMEDICDental Simulation SpecialistAs a paramedic for over 35 years, Rick has a vast foundation of acute critical care experience. Simultaneously, Rick has an extensive training history, for 20 years he directed the second largest American Heart Association CTC in the coun-try. He is personally responsible for training over 150,000 students in BLS, ACLS, and PALS. His AHA Instructor history includes Affiliate Faculty Status in BLS, ACLS, PALS. In 2014,

he established Dental Simulation Specialists Inc. to serve the growing need to increase awareness, patient safety and outcomes in the dental office.

Advanced Airway Complications & Management for the OMS There is obvious increased risk when providing sedation and general anesthesia in the dental office setting. A cautious and careful pre and post op assessment, in conjunction with continuous comprehensive intraoperative monitoring can thwart off many unwarranted complications. The Advanced Airway Emergency Management of the Sedated Patient Course will prepare and provide the OMS to successfully intervene and manage these adverse situations should they poten-tially occur.

OMS Office Emergencies – Simulation Course This unique and challenging program provides the OMS with a hands onclinical simulation experience that addresses the proper assessment and management of a variety of patient emergencies associated with sedation. This course will re-enact emergency simulations as a method to improve patient safety, team per-formance, and outcomes. You will be presented with a variety of case studies in which you will be engaged in real time critical decisions and therapies for those patients. Lastly, participants will be given the opportunity to participate and demonstrate the appropriate patient and team management on a host of high fidelity simulators and task trainers.

Kevin Arce, DMD, MDDr. Arce is originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico where he attended the University of Puerto Rico for his undergraduate studies. He obtained his dental degree from Temple University School of Dentistry and a certificate in oral and maxillofacial surgery and medical degree from Mayo Clinic School of Gradu-ate Medical Education and Mayo Medical School respectively. Following his residency, Dr. Arce completed a fellowship in Head and Neck Surgery at Legacy Emanuel Hospital, a Master

of Clinical Research at Oregon Health & Science University and a Master of Aca-demic Medicine from the University of Southern California, Keck School of Medi-cine. Dr. Arce practices oral and maxillofacial surgery with an emphasis on head and neck pathology and reconstruction. His research interests include functional and clinical outcomes in maxillofacial oncologic and reconstructive surgery, factors that influence surgical education and the use of virtual planning and 3D anatomical models on education and patient care. Functional Reconstruction of Complex Maxillofacial Defects VSP and 3 Dimensional Models in Oncologic Surgery and Surgical Training• Explore reconstruction techniques for complex maxillofacial defects• Discuss cross-disciplinary care and prosthodontic considerations in

maxillofacial reconstruction• Identify pitfalls and complications associated with maxillofacial reconstruction• Describe point of care virtual planning and 3D printing and its influence on

clinical decision making and surgical training

Julie Goldberg, DDSDr. Goldberg is the Dental Education Coordinator at OMSNIC and Fortress. Julie received her dental degree from the Uni-versity of Illinois and is a licensed dentist in both Illinois and Florida. He has been President of the MA Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, president of his hospital medical staff and an American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery examiner and section chairman.

Patient Safety and Risk Management for the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon This course aims to provide attendees with the enhanced tools necessary to promote patient safety and improve outcomes while reducing liability and ex-posure to risks. OMSNIC’s team of speakers will utilize a collaborative learning environment to illustrate contemporary day-to-day risks in the OMS practice through a detailed analysis of claim examples. The highlighted topics include nerve injury, communication, infection & failure to diagnose, medication man-agement, documentation, emergency preparedness and informed consent.

Objectives:• Identify aspects of communication and documentation with potentially

challenging implications to the OMS practice• Implement new strategies to help prevent failure to diagnose allegations and

improve management of infection cases • Establish best practices to help ensure preparation for and management

of in-office emergencies • Describe and manage informed consent challenges• Recognize the potential effect technology and applied risk management

can have on mitigating and managing nerve injury
