CAPTAIN KENNETH S. WRIGHT
UNITED STATES NAVY
Captain Wright is a native of San Pedro, California and received his commission through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps program at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1988. After graduating as Class Leader for Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) Class 169, his first operational assignment was to SEAL Team Five where he completed two Special Operations Platoon deployments to the Western Pacific. His next assignment was to Naval Special Warfare Unit One in Guam, serving as Commander, Naval Special Warfare Task Unit Belleau Wood. Transferring to Naval Special Warfare Group One in September 2001, he again deployed as Commander, Naval Special Warfare Task Unit Esse x His other assignments have included Executive Officer of Special Boat Team Twelve, Commanding Officer of Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Center Encino, Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of Naval Special Warfare Operational Support Team Two, Chief Staff Officer for Naval Special Warfare Operational Support Group, and serving on the staff of United States Special Operations Command. He twice deployed as a member of a joint special operations task force conducting operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2008 he became the plank owner Commanding Officer of SEAL Team Eighteen, conducting Naval Special Warfare operations in support of the Central, European, and Southern Command areas of responsibility. In 2012 he deployed to central Africa, commanding a joint interagency task force conducting operations with regional partner nation forces against Joseph Kony and the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) transnational terrorist group. In his most recent assignment, he served as the Chief of Staff for Special Operations Command South.
A 2006 graduate of the U.S. Army War College, Captain Wright is a designated Joint Qualified Officer and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering and Master’s Degrees in Business Administration/Technology Management and Strategic Studies. His personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Bronze Star, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), the Joint Service Commendation Medal (two awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
