The flight deck receives 100% fresh conditioned air from the left pack only and is maintained at a slightly higher pressure than the main deck. This prevents smoke from entering the flight deck. When the left pack is inoperative, the flight deck receives air from the mix manifold.

The left recirculation fan draws air through the forward E/E system and returns it to the mix manifold. Air from the main cargo compartment is drawn into the mixbay by the cabin exhaust fan. Air from the passenger compartment exits into the

Description

Temperature ControlThe airplane is divided into three primary temperature control compartments:

• flight deck (FLT DK)• main cargo area (FWD CAB)• passenger compartment (AFT CAB)

The pack controllers regulate the pack output air temperature to satisfy the temperature requirement of the compartment requiring the coolest air. Hot trim air from the bleed air system is added through trim air valves to control the temperature in each of the other compartments. Each temperature control compartment has an associated temperature control.A compartment INOP light illuminates and the EICAS advisory message FLT DECK TEMP, FWD CABIN TEMP, or AFT CABIN TEMP displays to indicate

Courier Area HeatersTwo courier area heaters are used to warm up the air for the comfort of thesupernumeraries. The Courier Heater Temperature Control Switch located on the CourierCommunication and Temperature Control Panel at the P5 Overhead Panel haspositions OFF, LOW and HIGH to allow pilot/co-pilot to adjust heat outputmanually.

Fire extinguisher bottles are installed for main cargo compartment fireextinguishing.

Rotating the main deck fire suppression panel ARM switch to ARMED theextinguishers for the compartment. This action cuts off air into and out of the main deck cargo compartment. In addition, the arming action turns off the forward lower lobe cargo compartment's heater and its fan.

Alternate cooling to the E/E bay will be provided from the mix manifold.

Pushing the bottle discharge (BTL DSCH) button on the main deck firesuppression panel will activate the high rate discharge of the halon agent fromfire extinguisher bottles 1 and 2. After 20 minutes, the low rate discharge ofthe halon agent from fire extinguisher bottles 3, 4 and 5 will be automaticallyactivated to maintain the required concentration.
