Technology Curriculum
Grades 5 - 6 — Reading Flemington — Technology Education
Program Philosophy A strong knowledge of technology is essential to a student’s success in today’s world. Although many students are familiar and comfortable with various forms of technology, they often lack basic skills and fundamental knowledge that are crucial to their future success. In order to best prepare our students to use current and emerging technologies, we must expose them to a wide variety of different systems and a broad suite of applications. The philosophy of the Technology Education department is to foster an environment that promotes learning about not only the specific uses of various technologies as applicable to academics and life skills, but also the fundamental underlying concepts that serve as a foundation for lifelong learning.
Technology Literacy SCOPE
The Technology course at Reading Flemington is a course that students take in 5th and 6th grade while attending Reading Flemington. The curriculum is aligned with the 8.1 Educational Technology standards of the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards, as well as ISTE standards, which state “ All students will use digital tools to access, manage, evaluate, and synthesize information in order to solve problems individually and collaboratively and to create and communicate knowledge.” As refenced from http://www.state.nj.us/education/cccs/standards/ the various strands of the 8.1 Educational Technology standards are as follows: Standard 8.1 Educational Technology
● A. Technology Operations and Concepts ● B. Creativity and Innovation ● C. Communication and Collaboration ● D. Digital Citizenship ● E. Research and Information Literacy ● F. Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making
