Happy 2015 Even though there is snow on the ground, and hopefully

more of it to come yet this winter, I get to officially wel-

come everyone back to campus for the spring semester.

Now it’s time to prepare for what’s coming ahead. Spring

semester means it is once again time for students to reg-

ister new Student Organizations for the rest of the

spring semester. Registration for the 2015-16 academic

year will take place later in the semester. Additionally,

we invite students to join us for a service-learning trip to

Tuba City, AZ and the Grand Canyon during Spring

Break, which builds off our successful inaugural service-

learning trip last year to the Colorado River mesa out-

side of Moab. This year’s service-learning Spring Break

trip is once again in collaboration with the Environmen-

tal Center. Welcome back – we look forward to serving

you! - Mark Mastalski, Director

Registered Student Organizations

Interested in starting a student organization? The registration deadline for new student organizations for Spring 2015 is

January 23, 2015. Organizations that register during this time period will

get a $50 allocation from ASFLC. The online registration form is on the

Leadership Center website. Existing organizations do not need to re-

register for the second semester (their initial registration was for the en-

tire school year). For any questions, please contact Chloe Canterbury.

This semester, the Leadership Center has hired two new student workers. They will be assisting the staff in sup-port of the student organizations and everyday opera-tions. Feel free to stop by to welcome them to our team!

Are you looking to take your leadership to the next level?

The LEAD cohort program is comprised of four levels starting with Bronze, advancing to Silver, then Gold, and concluding with Plati-num. The cohort model allows each level to be run like a class or or-ganization that will meet once a week at the same time for several weeks in a row. This gives participants the opportunity to grow through a shared experience. By participating in LEAD, you will gain a better understanding of leadership styles, learn to recognize the power of a team, and develop the potential to create social change.

Student Wellness Initiatives For many, the New Year signifies a fresh start. People are flocking to the gym and to the healthiest sections of the grocery stores with high hopes of self-improvement and growth. If you’ve set some goals, GREAT! And if you haven’t, here are some great suggestions to create some realistic resolutions. Happy 2015!

Be specific. Instead of promising to “get more sleep” or “go to the gym more,” be

specific about your goals. For example, you might want to “get at least 6 hours of

sleep each night” or “work out for 30 minutes at least 4 times a week.”

Cut down instead of cut out/off. We are often tempted to drop an unhealthy

habit or behavior completely. However, chances of success rise when baby steps are

taken towards change. For example, instead of saying you are going to cut out junk

foods, you might try adding something healthy at each meal, like a serving of

fruits and vegetables. Little changes can lead to big differences!

Step out of your comfort zone! Have you seen a bulletin board on campus late-

ly? They are jam packed. You might consider including a resolution to try some-

thing new this semester, or maybe even once a month. This encourages creative

learning, meeting new people, and you might be surprised by how much you enjoy

yourself!

Balance. Taking on a new challenge can be a great resolution! But don’t forget to

balance it out and make sure that you are not taking on too much. Maybe, for

some of you, cutting back is a better option instead of taking on anything new at

this time. If you are feeling crushed for time, struggling in your classes, or just

feeling overwhelmed, consider cutting down on your cocurricular involvement.

We would like to welcome Rachel Clark

as our new WellPAC President, leading

us along with Vice President Hannah

Horn. Here they are at our “Stressed at

Hogwart’s” program before finals in De-

cember (with Kevin Gardner).
