The introduction for the fixed group class usually takes 5 to 7 minutes. Always remember to introduce yourself first before the students. In this way, you are usingyour introduction as a pattern.
Introduction
After asking for their names and hobbies, proceed to do an ice breaker. This part is thehighlight of your introduction. Make the students feel comfortable with each other by playinggroup games, like a scavenger hunt or 2 truths and 1 lie.
Another important part of your introduction is the class rules. Discussing the Do’sand Don’ts helps you to be in control of the class. You can also include that thestudents will be rewarded if they do well in class.
True ...show a happy face.
False ...show a sad face
LearnTo increase student’s output, ask open-ended and close-ended questions. Now, instead ofjust answering you with one word of yes or no, you can think of ways to be creative inanswering. This is for Group teaching. For individual teaching, ask a particular student to read or answer, correct if it’s necessaryand recognize the student’s effort.
Be Resourceful!
3-minute breaktimeAfter the first part of the class, you may have a 3-minute- breaktime.
During this time, you may allow the students to drink water, go to the toilet,or have a bit of rest.
Please note that if there is a student who chooses not to have the breaktimeand decides to stay in front of the computer, you may play some Englishsongs, play a cartoon episode, or even prepare your own activity according tothe students' level.
Breaktime
How much learning content needs to be completed in this part? The students need to finish the practice and activity parts.
Practice
How to teach the practice and activity parts? The Keyword is checking.
Group checking - conducted by dividing the students into groupsand giving them a healthy competition. Then, rewards are given tothe group that performs better.
Individual checking Ask a particular student to read or answer an open-ended or close-ended question. The student can also fill in the blanks, match theanswers, circle the correct spelling and/or scatter sheets.
