1. Too many Christians stay on the slope their entire lives.

TAKE THE NEXT LIFT

Why do most people who go to church

only ski the bunny hill (weekend service)?

Why do some people decide to go beyond

the bunny hill and learn to be a disciple who

is able to freestyle (or grow) on their own?

PLOT

VERSE

Because of sin our “Old Self” is desperately

separated from God. Our sin

has earned the wage of death.

“For the wages of sin is death.” -Romans 6:23

Our “Old Self” and all of

our sins were “crucified with

Christ” and buried with Him in the tomb. Our

“Old Self” is dead.

“For we know that our old self

was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no

longer be slaves to sin--because

anyone who has died has been freed from sin.” -Romans 6:6-7

When Jesus raised from the

dead He conquered

death so we now have new life as a new creation.

“We were therefore buried with him through

baptism into death in order

that, just as Christ was raised from

the dead through the glory of the Father, we too

may live a new life.”

-Romans 6:4

BEFORE CHRIST BURIAL NEW LIFE

26

Page 28: Baptism Class Handbook

6. The baptism drama is most effective by . The word “baptize” comes from the Greek word “Baptizo” which means to “immerse,” “dip,” or “plunge.”

7. The baptism drama should be your own , not your parents.Newborn babies are baptized in some churches. Naturally, a baby is too small to know what baptism is all about. When parents baptize an infant the parents choose, not the infant. You may have been baptized when you were an infant. If so, you can make your own choice to be baptized as a believer in order to publicly display you are choosing to follow Jesus.

8. The purpose of baptism is . The purpose of baptism is so that my friends will know I am a believer and see how Jesus died for me and rose again, so that they can find Christ as their Savior too.

27

Page 29: Baptism Class Handbook

1. Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

2. Complete and turn in your story (write out how you came to know Jesus, and why you want to get baptized).

3. Invite 5 lost friends or family members to your baptism.

4. Watch all of these videos and fill out the notes. Bring notes to your 30 minute meeting with one of the Student Ministries staff.

5. Call Traci Hollingsworth at 719.388.4959 to schedule a 30 minute meeting with one of the Student Ministries staff.

6. Choose the service to be baptized. Baptisms are held at WVC on the first weekend of the month.

7. Choose which pastor at WVC you would like to baptize you.
