Welcome to theFITMAN Specific Enabler Webinar on

Introduction
• The FITMAN Collaborative Asset Management SE (FITMAN-CAM) is a web-based, integrated platform for managing Tangible / Intangible Assets in service-oriented Manufacturing Ecosystems
• Targeted at Digital and Virtual Factories
• Based on open standards (OWL2, LinkedUSDL)
• Delivered as a web portal
• Supports platform federation
2
Benefits [1/3]
• The term “asset” represents any item of economic value owned by an Enterprise.
• Assets are basically divided into two broad categories: resources and capabilities.– Resources are tangible items, like machinery,
hardware, transportation vehicles, buildings, people (employees), etc.
– Capabilities are of a more intangible nature: corporate knowledge (e.g., definitions of business or technical processes), individual competences, business relationships, etc.
3
Benefits [2/3]
• Both Tangible and Intangible Assets are used to achieve the goals of the Enterprise.
• In a Virtual Factory scenario, Assets are leveraged in a collaborative way to realize the common objectives: they are exposed and traded as Services within the Ecosystem.
4
Benefits [3/3]
• FITMAN-CAM is a dedicated platform for the collaborative management of Asset-as-a-Service (AaaS) entities in the Virtual Factory.
• It is targeted to the business user, who is not required to have IT expertise, nor an in-depth knowledge of ontology-related concepts and tools
5
Feature highlights [1/3]
• Define a reference Ontology using OWL2 constructs: classes, individuals, properties
• Describe Tangible and Intangible Assets by means of the reference Ontology
• Store T/I Asset descriptions in an online repository as virtualized Assets
6
Feature highlights [2/3]
• Create Assets as a Service (AaaS) items by linking a virtualized Asset to a service offering (i.e., availability, pricing, terms & conditions), as defined by Universal Service Description Language (LinkedUSDL) descriptor
• Create complex AaaS bundles by composition of simple ones
7
Feature highlights [3/3]
• Publish AaaS offerings to an Service Store, which is part of a larger Service Marketplace spanning the entire Manufacturing Ecosystem
• Search for AaaS offerings in the local Service Marketplace of your Manufacturing Ecosystem, and in the external Marketplaces belonging to federated Ecosystems
8
Technology highlights [1/3]
• Entirely web-based: no software to be installed locally by users
• A single FITMAN-CAM instance may support very large, distributed, decentralized organizations: multiple corporate user credentials databases (e.g., LDAP, Active Directory) integrate seamlessly with authentication and profiling subsystem
• Multiple FITMAN-CAM instances can be federated to create an Ecosystem cluster
9
Technology highlights [2/3]
• Low-level features based on standard open source components: Liferay Portal, Sesame, MySQL
• Leverages open source FI-WARE Generic Enablers: Marketplace and Repository reference implementations by SAP
• Core functionality and integration developed ad-hoc by Engineering SpA: Ontology Manager, Asset Manager, Service Manager
10
Technology highlights [3/3]
• Exposes several layers of APIs for integration with external applications: low-level for querying Ontology and T/I Assets (SPARQL), mid-level for interacting with AaaS, high-level for interfacing the Marketplace
• Runs on any Java-enabled system
