What will I catch from shore?

Sand flathead - caught on sandy bottom using baited hooks or soft plastics and a sinker. Tassie’s most caught fish.

Bream - use bait with a running sinker, hard body lures or soft plastics in rivers and estuaries. Inland waters catch limits apply.

Silver trevally - a fighting fish found in schools near reef edges and over sand. Use bait such as fish or prawns or try soft plastics or lures.

Garfish - taken using light gear with small hooks fished under a float. Baits include fish flesh, prawns or raw chicken.

Snapper - found on reefs bounded by areas of sand. Will take baits such as fish and squid, hard body lures and soft plastics.

King George whiting - use whiting rigs with prawns, chicken, squid or pipis for bait. A fighting fish that schools over sand and weed beds.

Local fishing facts • From a boat, you can also catch calamari and

Australian salmon. Offshore species include tiger flathead, striped trumpeter, morwong, tuna, blue-eye trevalla and mako shark.

• Georges Bay is a Shark Refuge Area. No taking of sharks, skates or rays other than elephantfish. Netting is also prohibited.
