Dear Member Your fishing membership renewal is now due, the cost remains at £12 (day and night ticket prices also remain the same) and allows you to fish overnight. When you renew, you will receive a membership card, and you will be asked to show this when paying in the shop, without this card you will have to pay again for membership, so please carry the card with you in your wallet or with your tackle so that it cannot be forgotten, as staff are instructed to insist on seeing the card. As a Carp fishery, Barston is known for its large stocks of carp, it is one of only four fisheries used as a British Carp Angling Championship venue to produce a weight of over 1000lbs in 48 hours (Pairs match), but it is is not known quite as well for its big fish. The biggest carp was caught way back in June 2005 at 30lb 6oz and previous to this at 29lb 6oz the year before, but hasn’t been reported since then. We wanted to introduce a big fish and placed on order a couple of years ago a 30lb+ fish. Not many suppliers can actually produce a 30lb+ fish when or-dered, so we have had to wait a long time, but we now have not one, but two new fish. Introduced in January were a 30lb and a 37lb specimen. At the time of writing (end of March) they have yet to be caught but we are expecting them to be landed anytime once the temperatures pick up. The fish came from a private lake in Kent so haven’t been fished for and are therefore in pristine condition.

We are also contin-uing with our in house breeding program which con-tinues to be suc-cessful and fish which were bred on at the start of the program 3 years ago are now being fished for in the fishing lakes and be there to be caught in the years to come.
