“Sack Lunch Today” for the Volunteers of America to help feed the poor. Please bring a sack lunch prior to the 11:00am Mass. Thank you for your generosity.

PASTOR’S POTPOURRI - TEMPTATION Someone once said: “I can resist everything but temptation.” Today we hear of our Lord’s 40 day journey in the desert to be tried and tempted by the Evil One. It reminds us that He become like us in all things but sin. During that period of testing, Jesus never gave in, but trusted in the Word of God, the Spirit and the Father’s presence. Our 40 day journey is about more than prayer and fasting. It is also about being one with those who are being initiated at the Easter Vigil through water and the Spirit. This Lenten time helps us to reflect on our own baptism and what we have been called to do with our Christian lives. Of the three temptations are these…first, about making material comforts first in our lives, the second is to seek power and influence for our-selves and the third is to think we are self-sufficient, which is the sin of pride. On this Sunday our Catechumens and Candidates experience the Rite of Election at the Cathedral. The Archbishop welcomes them into the Church as they make their final prepara-tion for Baptism. Confirmation and First Eucharist. From now on the Catechumens are called THE ELECT as they enter the period of the Enlightenment.

Lent provides us a time to go apart and pray and reflect how we are living our Baptism. Do we answer God’s call to be merciful as God is merciful? Are we feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, clothing the naked? In other words are we living the Corporal and Spiritual works of mercy? Let’s ask the Lord for the grace to make a good Lent for ourselves and all those who know us.

— Fr. Bob

This is a self-led journey through the stations with hands-on activities to do at each station. It is intended for children and their families, but all ages are welcome! Please note that each family starts at a dif-ferent time between 4 and 6 and walks the stations together for about 45 minutes – you will not be here the entire time from 4 to 6. You may start as early as 4:00 or as late as 6:00 – for this reason, we ask that you sign up in advance so we do not have everyone trying to start at the same time. *Traditional stations of the cross will still be held at 7:00 p.m. as well.

sun than to do without the Holy Mass”? The answer will be given on Wednesday Feb.17th in the Youth Center at 4:15.

Mark your calendars! Santiago’s Breakfast Burritos will be sold after all Masses on February 21st to benefit the Youth.

During Lent, St Jude will be once again hosting a shoe drive for Soles4Souls. Look for the collection boxes in the back of church and in the community center and donate your unwanted shoes. Donate shoes of any size and any condition. No shoe collected will end up in a land fill. Your shoes will travel the globe and end where they are needed most. In many countries, walking is the primary source of transportation. Help make a difference in someone’s life.
