Stewardship Update

(The following is taken from a message by Rick Warren)

Acts 20:35 - In all things I have shown you that

by so toiling one must help the weak, remember-

ing the words of the Lord Jesus how he said, "It is

more blessed to give than to receive." Do you

really believe that? There is more happiness in

giving than receiving. Happiness is based on liv-

ing generously. Rick gives us some key words

out of the Bible. The word ‘believe’ is used 272

times. The word ‘prayer’ is used 371 times. The

word ‘love’ is used 371 times. The word ‘give’ is

used 2157 times. The bible is a book about giv-

ing, and the essence of Christian living.

1. Giving makes you more like God. God is a giv-er. "God so loved the world that He gave..." Everything we have is a gift from God.

2. Giving draws us close to God. "Where your treasure is your heart will be also." Where is your heart today?

3. Giving is victory over materialism. Deuterono-my 14:23 - "The purpose of tithing is to teach us always to put God first in our lives." (The

Living Bible). There is a lie going around that happiness can be purchased. You make a

living by what you get, you make a life by what you give.

4. Giving strengthens your faith. Malachi 3:10 - “Test me in this." Proverbs 3:5 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart."

5. Giving is an investment for Eternity. You can't take it with you, but you can pass it on by in-vesting in others. Read I Timothy 6:18-19. COME ON, GO TO THE BIBLE AND READ IT!

6. Giving blesses you in return. Proverbs 22:9 - GO AHEAD - READ THAT ALSO.

7. Giving will make you happy. First Chronicles 29:9. I HOPE YOU ARE ENJOYING READ-ING THE SCRIPTURES.

When you see me just say ‘Rick Warren’, and I’ll know you read the article. See you in church.

By feeding the noisy can."

Adult Choir Schedule September 2019

September 1st - OFF (Labor Day Weekend)

September 8th - Rehearsal at 9:15 A.M.

September 14th - Sing at 9:00 A.M. Iowa Mission (Saturday) District Convocation service

September 15th - OFF

September 22nd - Rehearsal at 9:15 A.M.

September 29th - OFF

New members (grade 9 and older) are always welcome!!! Why join the church choir? Here are some reasons:

Singing in a choir causes intellectual stimu-

lation. When you make music, you are using

both sides of your brain simultaneously.

People involved in music live longer and are

healthier. (It's a proven fact!)

To quote Saint Augustine, “To sing is to

pray twice!”

Be part of a supportive “family.”

It is a wonderful way to serve your church

and your God.

"Real" men do sing in choir!

CHOIR.IS.FUN.

If you have any questions, you

can talk to any current choir

member, call director Kathy

Moorhouse at 927-5594, or just

come to our first rehearsal on

the 8th in the sanctuary and see

what it’s all about!

G.I.G. Women's Bible Study Ministry will resume on Tuesday, September 10

th. We invite you to join us for our

next bible study, "It's Not Supposed to Be This Way" by Lysa TerKeurst, at our new time - 6:00 P.M. - in the Inspiration Room.

“It's Not Supposed to Be This Way” offers a safe guide, fresh biblical insight, and life-giving per-spectives for living in between Eden and eternity. With grit, vulnerability, and honest humor, Lysa helps readers:

Stop being pulled into the anxiety of disappoint-ment by discovering how to better process un-met expectations and other painful situations.

Train themselves to recognize the three strate-gies of the enemy so they can stand strong and persevere through unsettling relationships and uncertain outcomes.

Discover the secret of being steadfast and not panicking when God actually gives them more than they can handle.

Shift their suspicion that God is cruel or reck-less to the biblical assurance that God is pro-tecting and preparing them.

Know how to encourage a friend and help them navigate hard realities with help from God's truth.

G.I.G. is open to all women age 18 & above. Previ-ous bible study experience is not necessary. Join us when you are able, and participate at your own comfort level. For questions, or to reserve your study guide, please contact Tanya Burnett at 563-599-4209 or [email protected].

Direct Support Professionals Week

Do you know someone who is a caregiver to a loved one? It is a role that is both demanding and meaning-

ful. During September’s National Direct Support Professionals Week, we celebrate all the ways in which

professional caregivers help children and adults achieve their goals and build meaningful lives. One way

LSI empowers Iowans is through our Services for People with Disabilities. From 24-hour support to occa-

sional respite care, the LSI team lifts up Iowans with disabilities as they find the confidence and independ-

ence they need to thrive in their communities.

We thank you for your faithful support of LSI – you create so many new life-changing possibilities for chil-dren, adults, and families! If you would like to learn more about how you can support crucial programming like LSI’s Services for People with Disabilities, please contact Deb Whitford, LSI director of philanthropy and church relations, at [email protected] or 563-676-2065.

Our Mission: Lutheran Services in Iowa responds to the love of Jesus Christ through compassionate

service. We proudly serve people of all ages, abilities, religions, sexes, gender identities, national origins,

ethnicities, races, and sexual orientations. Learn more at LSIowa.org and Facebook.com/LSI.Iowa.

Building Bright Futures... For 13-year-old Eric, the weekends he spends with his respite caregivers, Carolyn and David, have been life-

changing. Through LSI’s Services for People with Disabilities, Carolyn and David provide temporary care for

Iowa children, allowing their families and caregivers to take a well-deserved break. As respite care providers,

they are helping kids like Eric become more active in their community and find hobbies they enjoy.

During every visit, Eric loves going to the movies, flying kites in the local park, discovering the newest video

game, and playing with the family dogs. He’s enjoyed learning how to play pool – especially when he wins

a match against David. His mom, Erika, says it’s amazing to see her child bloom. Carolyn and David have

created a space where Eric can relax, receive one-on-one care away from his siblings, and just be a kid.

“Spending time with Carolyn and David is something I know my son loves and looks forward to. As a mom,

that’s huge for me,” Erika says. “Respite is one of the best decisions I’ve made for Eric. I thank heaven for

Carolyn and David and for LSI.”
