There are two criteria necessary for each second revision to pass ballot: (1) simple majority and (2) affirmative 2 /3 vote. The mock examples below show how the calculations are determined. (1) Example for Simple Majority: Assuming there are 20 vote eligible committee members, 11 affirmative votes are required to pass ballot. (Sample calculation: 20 members eligible to vote ÷ 2 = 10 + 1 = 11) (2) Example for Affirmative 2 /3: Assuming there are 20 vote eligible committee members and 1 member did not return their ballot and 2 members abstained, the number of affirmative votes required would be 12. (Sample calculation: 20 members eligble to vote 1 not returned 2 abstentions = 17 x 0.66 = 11.22 = 12 ) As always please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Page 1 of 39

Subject: NFPA 556 Second Draft TC FINAL Ballot Results (A2015)

According to the final ballot results, all ballot items received the necessary affirmative votes to pass ballot.

20 Members Eligible to Vote

6 Members Not Returned (E. Buc, M. Burr, C. Cope, G. Damant, W. Koffel, J. Santrock)

14 Members Voted Affirmative on All Revisions

0 Members Voted Affirmative with Comment on one or more Revisions

0 Members Voted Negative on one or more Revisions

0 Members Abstained on one or more Revisions

The attached report shows the number of affirmative, negative, and abstaining votes as well as the explanation of

the vote for each second revision.

There are two criteria necessary for each second revision to pass ballot: (1) simple majority and (2) affirmative 2/3 vote. The mock examples below show how the calculations are determined.

(1) Example for Simple Majority: Assuming there are 20 vote eligible committee members, 11 affirmative votes

are required to pass ballot. (Sample calculation: 20 members eligible to vote ÷ 2 = 10 + 1 = 11)

(2) Example for Affirmative 2/3: Assuming there are 20 vote eligible committee members and 1 member did not

return their ballot and 2 members abstained, the number of affirmative votes required would be 12. (Sample

calculation: 20 members eligble to vote – 1 not returned – 2 abstentions = 17 x 0.66 = 11.22 = 12 )

Second Revision No. 3-NFPA 556-2014 [ Section No. 10.1 ]

10.1 General.Several evaluation methods and tools might be suitable for assessing the fire behavior of passenger road vehicle components, when associated with any of the fire scenarios discussed in this guide. FMVSS 302 and other similar tests using different designations are used as the regulatory standard for the evaluation of passenger road vehicle components in the United States and some other countries. Table 10.1 identifies several, but not all, potential fire tests for consideration in assessing the fire performance of various components that could be involved in passenger road vehicle fires.Table 10.1 Relevant Test Methods and Evaluation Tools

Committee Statement

CommitteeStatement:

Delete the reference to ANSI/SAE Z-26.1 in the section of Table 10.1 and replace it with two references to sections 5.18 and 5.19 of that standard because they are the only ones that actually contain flammability tests. The test on section 5.18 is for materials that are less than 0.05 inches in thickness and the test on section 5.19 is for materials that are over 0.05 inches in thickness. They are both Bunsen burner flame spread rate tests. The "comment" should state "regulatory small scale test for flame spread rate of materials that are 1.27 mm or less in thickness" and "regulatory small scale test for flame spread rate of materials that are over 1.27 mm in thickness". Also replace the reference to Windshields and NFPA 257/ANSI UL 9 with one that states "Windshields - fire protection rating" and in the comment state"time-temperature curve of glazing, excluding hose stream test" - forconsistency Also, in the line on plastic fuel tanks, in the comment, add the word "scale" between full and test.
