First cut feedback

I produced a questionnaire on survey monkey for the focus group to complete regarding my first cut. The aim of this questionnaire was to ensure that the final cut of the short film is as successful as possible to ensure that it appeals and attracts to the target audience of the film. The results from the questionnaire can be found below.

Question 1: How easy was the narrative of the film to follow?

Question 2: Would you recommended the film to anyone?

Question 3: What was your favourite scene from the film?

This shows that the 57.14% found the narrative easy to follow and 42.36% found it difficult to follow at some points. For this question I asked for reasons of choice, the main reason for people choosing ‘difficult to follow at some points’ was due to them not knowing who was texting Jade after she had left the letter on Carol’s desk and who was calling her whilst in the woods with Cara. One person asked if it was all happening in one day, therefore this could be made clearer in the final cut by adding captions.

This shows that everyone who completed the questionnaire would recommended the film to someone, this shows that the first cut appeals to the target audience and is successful. The 100% indicates that no major changes are needed in the final cut.

This graph shows that the most favourable scene from the film is the ending scene with the flashback. The results show that there were 4 out of 6 favourite scenes, this indicates that the film is successful as it shows that there a number of favourite scenes by the viewers.

Question 4: What was your least favourite scene from the film?

Question 5: Was the music suitable for each scene?

Question 6: Are there any improvements that could be made to the film?

This question was comments only, not multiple choice. The comments from this question showed that perhaps captions should be used to make it clearer for the viewer to who is calling Jade. Comments also included ‘to make the narrative clearer add timings throughout the film to make it smoother’, this could be done by flashing out the time of day each significant event in the film is happening for example the first scene at the start of school it would be 8:30am.

This graph shows that everyone who completed the questionnaire all had the same least favourite scene. The scene with Jade and Cara in the woodlands was the least favourite. The comments showed that this was their least favourite scene because they didn’t find any significance or importance in the scene and therefore didn’t find it relevant. Many of the comments showed that it was only their least favourite scene because it wasn’t as important as the other scenes, this shows that I should have made an answer for not having a least favourite.

This table shows that the majority found the music to be suitable, this is important because of the film including many emotional and sensitive issues such as bereavement and therefore it is important that these are handled with care. The comments showed that the reason for the 14.29% believing that the music was suitable the majority of the time was due to the music carrying on from a happy scene to a sad scene, this was from the woodlands to the scene where Jade and Olly find out their mum has died.
