St. John Ambulance, Alberta Council is a non-profit, charitable organization, that provides Community Services, Disaster Response, Volunteer opportunities and all levels of First Aid, CPR, Workplace Safety and Pre-hospital courses to Albertans. St. John Ambulance is self-funded, with a significant percentage of revenues directed back into our communities through programs and services to meet community need. By choosing St. John Ambulance as your First Aid provider, not only

will you receive the highest quality training and up-to-date skills, but your dollars support the many community partnerships and services we provide.

Our 7 Centres located throughout Alberta, supported by over 2,000 volunteers, instructors and 54 staff, contribute in excess of 15 million dollars of economic value to Albertans annually through programs such as; Therapy Dog, We Can Help Too!, Child Safety Seat Info sessions, Medical First Responder and First Aid response. During the 2013 floods in southern Alberta and the Fort McMurray fires in 2016, St. John Ambulance provided resources and services to those affected.

St. John Ambulance is COR certified and participates within many organizations such as the CSSE, ACSA, CSA, Alberta Government Workplace Health and Safety and the Alberta College of Paramedics. We provide industry leading courses, innovative and educational programs, all with the goal of providing life-saving training to Albertans.

St. John Ambulance participated in the Canadian Guidelines Consensus Task Force comprised of the five national training agencies to review the consensus on science completed by ILCOR and create the 2016 Canadian Guidelines on First Aid and CPR.

We welcome your feedback, encourage nominations to our Awards of Excellence, Life Saving Awards and to acknowledge the many partners that support St. John Ambulance. To learn more about our organization, to donate or to register for any of our courses, please contact one of our Centres or visit our web site.

NEW FOR 2017St. John Ambulance has revised our First Aid and CPR training programs to reflect the new 2016 Canadian Guidelines on First Aid and CPR. The Guidelines are based on international evidence-based research including the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR). The Canadian Guidelines Consensus Task Force included representatives from the five national training agencies including St. John Ambulance. Overwhelmingly there was validation of the science and protocols developed from the 2010 Guidelines. There are, however, some key changes and new information. The new guidelines are not a suggestion that old methods are ineffective, incorrect, or dangerous, but reflect new techniques and approaches with proven benefits and improved outcomes.

PLEASE NOTE: Current certificates remain valid until the expiry date shown.

The importance of Automated External Defibrillator (AED) cannot be underestimated. Not only has the quick application of an AED in a cardiac emergency been proven to prolong life until EMS arrives but save the lives of those experiencing a crisis. St. John Ambulance is pleased to now carry two brands of Automated External Defibrillators from Philips and ZOLL.

Alberta Workplace Health and Safety supports the use of AEDs at the work site provided the employer ensures that AED use is integrated into the emergency response plan at the site and workers using an AED are trained to safely use it.
