Gallery News April 2015  Hi  everyone.    Six  paintings  were  sold  in  March.    Congratulations  to  the  lucky  artists,  Debbie  Sarkoezy,  Anne  Pears,  Karen  Cornish,  Robin  Mearns,  Fae  Lister  and  Elsa  Toms.  The  gallery  is  having  some  improvements  made    including  new  floor  covering  in  the  back  room,  new  security  sensor  lights  at  the  front  and  side  of  the  building    (a  welcome  addition  for  our  evening  activities)  and  a  laser  beam  at  the  front  entrance  alerting  us  to  visitors.    Thanks  to  Bernice  for  taking  such  good  care  of  the  gallery  while  I  was  away.      “Treasures  by  the  Sea”  is  our  next  exhibition  with  changeover  day  next  Tuesday  21st  April.    We  ask  you  to  make  sure  your  paintings  are  presented  in  pristine  condition,  both  back  and  front  with  the  correct  hanging  cord  and  “D”  rings  attached  securely.        GAGS:    Wednesdays,  9-‐2pm.  $5.  BYO  everything.    A  mixed  media  day  has  been  organised  on  the  second  Wednesday  in  May.    Called  “Beginnings”,  we’ll  be  producing    playful  M/M  backgrounds    for  future  unique    works  of  art.  This  is  a  fun  way  of  working  from  chaos  to  clarity  or  anywhere  in  between  without  the  pressure  of  producing  a  finished  work  immediately.      If  you’d  like  to  join  in,  ring  me  for  a  materials  list  or  just  do  your  own  thing  as  usual.    The  main  aim  of  GAGs  is  to  interact  with  other  arty  folk  and  to  encourage  all  members  to  use  the  gallery  as  their  own  art  space  to  paint,  draw  or  experiment.    Newbies  very  welcome.  Enquiries  ring  Jan  65  836693.        PORTRAIT  DRAWING  is  incorporated  with  GAGs  on  the  third  Wednesday  of  the  month  for  those  so  inclined.        LIFE  DRAWING      The  first  Thursday  of  the  month  from  6pm-‐9pm,  $15.    Some  floor  easels  available.    Bring  something  to  nibble  on  during  the  break.                                                                              Happy  painting  everyone.    Jan  F.

President’s Report for April  Breaking  News!    you  are  the  first  to  hear,  Niomi  Sands  from  the  Glasshouse  has  informed  me  that  once  again  the  H.V.F.A.A.  will  be  represented  at  the  Regional  Gallery  for  the  third  time.  We  made  a  submission  last  year  asking  to  be  considered  for  an  exhibition  of  our  members  entitled  “Towards  Abstraction”  and  it  has  been  accepted.  Details  are  yet  to  be  worked  out  but  it  will  be  early  next  year    and  we  will  need  to  meet  with  Niomi  to  arrange  it  so  get  ready  for  action.    At  our  General  meeting  we  had  a  powerful  address  from  Dale  Seymour  a  representative  of  Braveheart’s  which  we  donated  a  $1000  from  fundraising  at  our  Summer  Showcase.  Strong  emotional  testimonial  stuff  that’s  a  wake  up  to  all  who  were  in  attendance.    Some  money  will  be  spent  on  the  gallery  with  new  outside  lights  so  we  can  see  at  night  needed  for  life  drawing  and  other  functions  which  may  be  organised  in  the  future  plus  new  floor  covering  for  the  back  room,  probably  vinyl  of  a  light  colour  .    Our  members  have  done  very  well  at  recent  exhibitions,  good  sales  at  Uralla,  good  prize  winnings  at  the  Port  Macquarie  Exhibition  five  firsts  and  thirteen  placements  and  two  winners  at  the  Great  Lakes  Exhibition  and  sales.    The  Have  Brush  Will  Travel  trip  was  very  successful  and  highly  enjoyable.    Twenty  four  of  us  went,  some  of  the  spots  we  painted  were  Hastings  Point  just  along  from  Cabarita  Beach  and  river  scenes.  The  pick  was  Crams  Farm  past  the  village  of  Uki  thirty  kilometres  from  Murwillumbah  looking  towards  Mount  Warning.    The  major  visit  was  to  the  Tweed  Valley  Regional  Gallery  to  view  Margaret  Olley’s  exhibition.  The  gallery  has  also  a  beautiful  display  of  work  of  a  broad  spectrum  of  Australian  art,  and  we  also  enjoyed  a  great  lunch  at  their  restaurant.  The  cocktail  hour  at  the  end  of  each  day  was  well  attended  by  happy  drinkers  and  music  supplied  by  Gwen  and  Allan  Cause  ukulele  masters  and  Eddie  Sarkoezy  who  presented  the  group  with  great  music  from  his  hand  crafted  guitar.                                                                                                            Brian  Barker  President
