PROJECT THEME
Chosen theme: Mental Health
Why?
It’s an extremely important topic that still isn’t spoken about enough. The aim of the project is to help students deal with and overcome their mental health problems so that they can live a happier and healthier life
TARGET AUDIENCEStudents
Research shows that one in five young adults in Ireland aged between 19-24 experience mental health problems. It is clear that more help and awareness is needed for students.
TREATMENT
Chosen treatment: App
Smartphones are very popular - 41% of 16-24 year olds are connected online during every waking hour of the day
Smartphones are portable, you can bring them with you anywhere – so no matter where the person is, they can easily access the app and use it whenever they need it.

RESEARCH
Originally, the app was supposed to just based on mental health overall.
After some feedback, it was decided to focus on one area: Panic Attacks
Having no experience in this area, I needed to do a lot of research.
ONLINE RESEARCH
Looked at sites like ReachOut and found out the symptoms and causes of panic attacks as well as different ways to help panic attacks.
PLEASE TALK
Got in touch with an officer from Please Talk - gave me a list of college societies and clubs based on Mental Health to speak to

LESSONS LEARNED
Research PanicAttacks
Effective
Research - especially in this
area - isessential for the
app to be effective
Panic attacks are subjective to the
person experiencing them and some coping mechanisms may
not work for everyone
An app is more effective if it only has a few solid
features, instead of lots of
different ones
PLANS FOR SEMESTER 2
• Take all the feedback that will be given on board and make any changes that need to made and apply them to the project.
• Finalise the wireframes and mockups
• Finalise the logo
• Brainstorm for app names
• Settle on the types of exercises included in the app
• Begin developing the app
