1. Introduction
1.1 The Organizer, Hong Kong Shitoryu Karatedo Union (HKSKU), would like to
announce that the 13th Asia Pacific Shitoryu Karatedo Championships cum
20th Anniversary of HKSKU have completed successfully in accordance with
schedule on 16 December 2012.
1.2 We hereby take this opportunity to express our gratitude for those who have
contributed to the organization of these events, and those who have
participated in them.
1.3 After 18 months of preparation works, HKSKU launched the Championships
together with some associated events, namely, Welcome Dinner, Technical
Seminar, Referee Clinic, World Shitoryu Karatedo Federation (WSKF)
Examination, 13th APSKF Congress and Farewell Party, during the period
from 12 to 16 December 2012. Around 550 participants from 19 Delegations
in the Asia and Pacific regions attended the events.
1.4 This report summarizes the salient points of the Championships and the
associated events for official record.

2.1 There were totally 550 participants from 19 Delegations including officials
from WSKF and APSKF attending the Championships as detailed in the table

3. Welcome Dinner
3.1 On the arrival of all Delegations in Hong Kong for the 13th APSKF
Championships, HKSKU cordially invited all VIP, Honourable Guests,
Delegation Leaders and Referees to the Welcome Dinner which was held in
the evening of 12 December 2012 (Wednesday) in the Superstar Seafood
Restaurant at Park Central of Tseung Kwan O.
3.2 Totally 80 nos. participants had attended the Welcome Dinner.
3.3 At the beginning of the Dinner, all participants observed one-minute of silence
led by Sensei Patrick Leung, President of HKSKU, to commemorate the
passing of the late HKSKU President Mr. HUNG Hin-wai in March 2010, the
late WSKF Senior Master Sensei Yoshiaki TSUJIKAWA in April 2012, and the
late WSKF President Sensei Ken SAKIO in June 2012.
3.4 Sensei Patrick Leung, Sensei Iwan Setiawan, President of APSKF, Sensei
Hiroshi Murata, President of WSKF, and Sensei Chang Lin Ping, Organizing
Committee Chairman then delivered welcoming speeches in sequence before
the Dinner.
3.5 All participants took the opportunity to meet new and old friends of Shitoryu
Karatedo, exchange name cards and souvenirs, take memorable photos with
each other, enjoy delicious food and wine, and also indulge in the family-like
atmosphere of the Dinner.
3.6 The Dinner finished at around 10:30 p.m.

4. Technical Seminar
4.1 The Technical Seminar was conducted by Sensei Kiyoshi Sakamoto with the
assistance of other masters from WSKF and APSKF on 13 December 2012
(Thursday) from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Arena of Hang Hau Sports
Centre at Tseung Kwan O.
4.2 The Seminar was divided into Kata session and Bo session. The Kata
session was conducted from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., whereas the Bo session
was conducted from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
4.3 Two sets of Kata, namely, Suparimpei and Annanko, and some basic Bo
techniques and a basic Bo kata were introduced and practised in the seminar.
4.4 A total number of 57 participants from all Delegations had attended the
Seminar. Every participant was bestowed a participation certificate of the
Technical Seminar.

5. WSKF Examination
5.1 The WSKF Examination was conducted on 13 December 2012 (Thursday)
from 2:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Activities Room of Hang Hau Sports Centre
at Tseung Kwan O.
5.2 Sensei Hiroshi Murata, Sensei Kenyu Mabuni, Sensei Iwaki Hashimoto,
Sensei Hirofumi Mizuguchi, Sensei Genzo Iwata, Sensei Yukihiro Nozawa,
Sensei Makoto Tokai and Sensei Kiyoshi Sakamoto conducted the
examination for about 30 candidates.
5.3 Sensei Katsuhiko Kawata was cordially invited to act as Translator for the
Examination.
5.4 The Examination covered WSKF titles from 3rd Dan to 8th Dan, Jokyo,
Jun-Shihan, Shihan and Renshi.
5.5 The results of the Examinations were announced to individual candidates in
the Farewell Party on 16 December 2012 (Sunday).

6. Referee Clinic
6.1 The Referee Clinic was conducted by APSKF on 14 December 2012 (Friday)
from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 pm. in the Arena of Hang Hau Sports Centre at Tseung
Kwan O.
6.2 The Seminar was divided into Theory session and Practice session. The
Theory session was conducted in the morning from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.,
whereas the Practice session was conducted in the afternoon from 1:30 p.m.
to 4:00 p.m. Referee Testing was conducted at the end of the Clinic.
6.3 Sensei Con Kassis and Sensei Allen Tanzadeh conducted the Referee Clinic
in which the latest World Karate Federation Kata and Kumite Competition
Rules were covered.
6.4 A total number of 42 participants from participating Delegations had attended
the Referee Clinic and 33 of them had taken part in the Referee Testing.
Every participant was bestowed a participation certificate of the Referee Clinic,
and every participant who had passed the Referee Testing was bestowed a
Referee Certificate from APSKF.

7. 13th APSKF Congress
7.1 The 13th APSKF Congress was convened by APSKF on 14 December 2012
(Friday) from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Crown Plaza Hong Kong Kowloon
East Hotel at Tseung Kwan O.
7.2 Two representatives from each Delegation were cordially invited to attend the
Congress. Representatives from WSKF were also invited to the Congress as
observers.
7.3 At the beginning of the Congress, Sensei Iwan Setiawan, President of APSKF
delivered a welcoming speech to all participants. It was followed by
confirmation of the minutes of the last 12th APSKF Congress held on 1 July
2010 in Jakarta of Indonesia. Afterwards, representatives from Australia,
Bangladesh, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Macau,
Malaysia, Nepal, Palestine, Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam briefly
reported on the development of their organizations in the last couple of years.
7.4 After Sensei Iwan Setiawan had delivered APSKF Working Report from 2010
to 2012, APSKF Treasurer Sensei Wong Tuang Seng reported on the latest
APSKF account, which was adopted in the Congress.
7.5 At the end of the Congress, APSKF Management Committee were elected.

7. 13th APSKF Congress (Cont’d)
7.6 Sensei Allen Tanzadeh (Iran) and Sensei Chia Kwek Fah (Singapore) were
appointed as Technical Adviser and Website Master respectively to offer
voluntary services for APSKF. The positions of other Advisers in APSKF were
remained unchanged.
7.7 Lastly, Sensei Hiroshi Murata, President of WSKF introduced the coming
7th WSKF Championships, which were to be held in September 2013 in Japan,
and invited all APSKF Affiliates to fully support and participate in the event.
Moreover, the Congress announced that Singapore would host the
14th APSKF Championships in August 2014 and at the same time celebrate
their 50th Anniversary.

8. 13th APSKF Championships
8.1 There were 60 nos. events of competitions, including 15 nos. individual
events for Children of age 6-13, 9 nos. individual events for Cadets of age
14-15, 9 nos. individual events for Juniors of age 16-17, 13 nos. individual
events for Seniors of age 18-39, 5 nos. individual events for Veterans of age
40 and above, 5 nos. team events for Cadets/Juniors and 4 nos. team events for Seniors – the largest number of events of all APSKF Championships in the past.

8.5 In the Opening Ceremony held at 2:00 p.m. on 16 December 2012 (Sunday), Sensei Kiyoshi Sakamoto was cordially invited to demonstrate Annanko Kata and Bo Kata. Moreover, Sensei Hiroshi Murata, Sensei Iwan Setiawan, Sensei Kenny Yu and Sensei Patrick Leung were invited to jointly make a calligraphy and painting for Charity Auction in the Farewell Party.

9. Farewell Party
9.1 The Farewell Party was hosted by HKSKU in the evening of 16 December
2012 (Sunday) in the Grand Ballroom of Regal Airport Hotel after the
completion of the 13th APSKF Championships.
9.2 More than 550 participants from all Delegations had attended the Farewell
Party and indulged in the joyful atmosphere.
9.3 Six pieces of calligraphies and paintings about Karatedo made by a
handicapped artist together with the calligraphy and painting made in the
Opening Ceremony of the 13th APSKF Championships were donated for
Charity Auction. A total amount of HK$10,806.30 (approx. US$1,403.91) was
raised and donated to “UNICEF-United Nations Children's Fund” in the name
of “Asia Pacific Shitoryu Karatedo Federation”. Heartfelt thanks for the
charitable persons who had offered bids for the calligraphies and paintings in
the Charity Auction (please refer to a separate issue for details).
