When our audience observed the film, a lot of people understood the gaming aspect saying that the protagonist (David) was a video game character living a monotonous life and could never be able to escape this life he now has. This was projected a lot more clearer as, unlike in the rough cut questionnaire, we had been able to put in the glitches which would play a key aspect to the film by indicating David’s world wasn’t as normal as people in the game reckon it is. However some people couldn’t understand the story as there was no dialogue and couldn’t get what the purpose of the film was about.

The plot of the film

Again, for our film, people reviewed that they thought the genre was Psychological Drama and Science Fiction which was successful for us as initial aim was to show that genre in a dark and melancholy way. This was because we understood that whilst it had scares, the film was supposed to show the daily emotions and routines of someone which meant that our audience was just following the characters daily life schedule and also that the film contained science themes such as the Virtual world vs reality.

Genre

When observing the classification of the film and certificate it should get, there were a majority vote which said 12/12A as they felt the film contained minimal threat or violence and was a bit complex for a PG certificate as the film contained twists which they felt younger audiences wouldn’t been able to understand the themes and plot of the story and would become very confused. This was something we wanted to achieve as we felt, whilst it was a adult film, there minimal threat and violence to be a 15 or an 18 which is why we originally aimed to achieve a film which would reach the certificate of a 12/12A.

As part of the film, lighting was a key element we wanted to achieve. When asking the audience, they felt the lighting worked well as it gave a sense of normality and not something that would stimulate or simulate something else altogether. The use of this helped gave a shock with the glitches to give a foreboding to the film that something is wrong and David’s world isn’t ordinary as people think it might be originally.

When finding out about music, we wanted to help achieve a dark and funky music. When asking the audience they felt it suited the film as they felt it suited the film and the themes of the film as they felt it was very sci-fi which helped relate to the themes of the film. This was something we wanted to achieve as whilst we didn’t want to give the twist away, we wanted to hint elements that something was wrong and not normal as part of this.

When the audience had reviewed our film, there were numerous things they had asked us to improve on such as making the storyline a lot more clear and more in depth as well as they suggested to make the film longer. However, due to the fact that this project could only allow us to do a 5 minute film then it made it very hard to go in depth into a storyline. As a result of it, some of the people had said that the storyline at times felt weak and should’ve gone into more detail.

Possible improvements we could have done

Because the film is now complete, we asked our audience for an overall impression of the film in under 3 words in which they said it was interesting and impressed by the film and its complexity to the film indicating that it had the potential to be stronger if we had the opportunity to go over 5 minutes limit for our film. This is something that is pleasing for us as we want a film that is not just only interesting and intriguing but also had the potential to be better had we been able to go over the time limit of 5 minutes.
