He was born in Cesena in 13 January 1970.Son of Ferdinando an Tonina, owner of a Piadina Shop, on theseafront of Cesenatico, where Marco grew.Stared his studies as a normal student with not brilliantsresults.He was passionated of hunting and fishing that practiced withhis father and grandfather.Started his sport life as a football player but with poor results.

FactHis sportive life started when is grandfather gifted him a roadbicycle.

When he was eleven hejoined the Fausto Coppilocal cycling club ofCesenatico.He finished Third in 1990and Second in the 1991 tothe Girobio.Finally he won it in the1992.

THE EARLY YEARS 1992-1997

He signed in 1992 his first contract whit CarreraJeans-Vagabond earning the minimum established asgregarious of Claudio Chiappucci.The 1994 the turning point of his career, he won twoprestigious stages at the “Giro di Italia” Lienz-Merano and theMerano Aprica, finishing second at the overall classification.In the same year he did the Tour de France, finishing third inthe general classification and won the young rider classification.

First accident when he was young,hitting a car when was training.He was hit by a car while training inthe 1995, he couldn’t start at Girod’Italia(Tuor de France won Alped’Huez-Morzine)He took part to the Giro in 1997, buthe was injured when a black cat causedan accident in front of him during oneof the first stages(retreat from Giro).
