    TOTALQUALITY AIR

    PACKAGE

  • You need pure compressed air

If compressed air is the energy

    source behind your produc-

tion, you depend on its eco-

    nomic and efficient operation.

With as many as 140 million par-ticles of dirt in every cubic metre of

air, pollution in industrial areas is a

major hazard for any compressed air

system. Up to 80 % of these particles

are smaller than two microns and can

    pass straight through the compressor

    into the compressed air distribution

    system.

These particles, mixed with wa-ter vapour and hydrocarbon vapours

    from unburnt fuels and industrial

processes, are drawn into the com-

    pressor and concentrated under com-

    pression.

After compression, all these con-taminants can combine in the piping

    system with condensed moisture,

pipe scale and rust, creating a damag-

    ing abrasive emulsion.

Instruments and tools can mal-function, spray guns and pneumatic

    components can be rendered unus-

    able, maintenance costs will increase

and end products will be spoiled.

The best answer to this is a per-fectly matched filter system, which

    reduces all types of contamination

    right from the source.

To assist in understanding the parameters of filtration, referto this pollution sizing chart. Note that a major contaminant, oil mist, is in the region of 0.01 - 0.8 micron. Yet the smallestparticle the human eye can see is in the order of 50 microns!

Atlas Copco has developed sucha filter system, exactly tailored to

meet the demand for even purer com-

pressed air. It will supply you with

the air treatment products that pro-

    vide top-quality compressed air -

pure and dry - according to your indi-

    vidual requirements.

    How they work.

The key to effective filtrationis to optimise the three filtration

    mechanisms : direct interception,

    inertial impaction and diffusion

    (brownian movement).

Complete range to meet yourcompressed air quality needs.

Atlas Copco offers you 4 rangesof filters :

    - DD range: coalescing filters for

    general purpose protection, removing

liquid water and oil aerosol to 0.1

mg/m (0.1 ppm) and particles down

    to 1 micron.

    - DDp range: particulate filters

    for dust protection, removing parti-

    cles down to 1 micron.

    - PD range: high efficiency coa-

    lescing filters, removing liquid water

    and oil aerosol to 0.01 mg/m (0.01

ppm) and particles down to 0.01 mi-

    cron.

    - QD range: active carbon filter

for removal of oil vapours and hydro-

carbon odours with a maximum re-

maining oil content of 0.003 mg/m

(0.003 ppm) should be installed after

    a PD filter.

    Sure, safe performance.

Built-in safety features ensure areliable, safe operation. An audible

alarm warns when dismantling is at-

    tempted under pressure. A pressure

relief valve allows the unit to be de-

    pressurized before dismantling and

also provides a simple check that

    the automatic drain is functioning

    correctly.

The range of Atlas Copco filters, when used in the right combinations,

can provide clean air from 9 to

    7,200 l/s.

    Easy maintenance.

Atlas Copco DD, DDp and PDfilters are equipped as standard with

    a differential pressure indicator or

    gauge to allow element replacement

    in due time.

You have easy access for quickelement change, by simply unscrew-

    ing the filter bowl.

    Keep your compressed aircosts down.

Atlas Copcos filters are de-signed to combine maximum con-

    taminant removal efficiency with

    minimum pressure drop, resulting in

a low energy consumption in your

    compressed air system.

Keep in mind, a pressure drop ofjust 0.3 bar (4 psi) will cost you a re-

    quired power increase of approxi-

    mately 2 %.

  • Features and benefits

Differential pressure gauge (not re-quired on QD):

    - with dual face, allows filter instal-

    lation in any position;

    - indicates the optimum replace-

    ment time;

    - sizes 9, 17 and 32 equipped with

    pressure differential indicator

    (pop-up type);

    - voltage-free contact for remote in-

    dication (optional).

Die cast aluminium housing (up tosize 520) with epoxy powder paint on

the outside and anodised surface treat-

ment inside prevents corrosion and en-

    sures extra long lifetime.

Simple and reliable push on ele-ments for easy and fast replacement with

minimum free space required under the

    filter. No tie rod.

Audible alarm gives warning whendismantling attempted under pressure.

Sight glass allows visual check ofliquid collection and drain operation.

Modern and unique head designprovides smooth air flow with minimal

    pressure drop.

Automatic drain (not required onDDp and QD) with manual override and

    quick coupling connection removes

separated liquid from the filter, allows

    filter depressurisation and facilitates

    drain connection.

    Construction is 100% silicon-free.

  • Filter element

Element designed with large ef-fective filtration surface for mini-

mum pressure drop and long life time

    providing reduced operational and

    maintenance costs.

Double O-ring and epoxysealed caps prevent the bypass of the

filter media by the compressed air.

High strength stainless steelsupport screens prevent corrosion

    contamination.

Filter media of different gradesof borosilicate microfibres, to pro-

vide the right purity of compressed

    air according to ISO 8573.1.

Filtration media is impregnatedwith active carbon to remove hydro-

    carbon vapours (only QD filters).

    Optional equipment.

Together with the filters anumber of optional components are

made available to satisfy your re-

    quirements:

Filter connection kits alloweasy mounting of filters inseries, with minimum spacerequired.

Pressure drop indicator withvoltage free contact to giveremote indication of filter re-placement.

    Wall mounting kits simpiflywall installation.

Quick coupling for easy con-nection to drain collector oroil-water separator.
