I asked this question as the title sequence is what the audience witnessed first. The title sequence was important to me as I felt in established context subtly without lengthening the video too much. 8/26 people felt it was good, while the rest were scattered in terms of opinion. It made me go back and look over the title sequence and see what I could amend while I still had the time to do so. After going back I realised I did not really want to change anything much, but I did remove a section at the end of the title sequence as I thought it was unnecessary to keep in.

What was your opinion on the title sequence, if any?

Did the title sequence of 'Curiosity' arouse any sort of emotions, if so what was it? E.g arouse fear, sense of unease etc.

Reading through many film reviews and theatre production tips I frequently saw the quote “You have 30 to win your audience” or things similar to that quote. This really stuck with me, so I wanted to see what the audience felt in the first 30-40 seconds of my film. I felt as if I had accomplished what I wanted throughout the title sequence after reading through the answers. But was slightly disappointed by the quantity of No’s I received.

This was a difficult question to collate the data for as there were a range of opinions and some very vague ones. I made the mistake of asking two question simultaneously making it harder for me to decipher which question each viewer was answering. But I am glad I asked this question as it really did point out key features that needed adjusting in my short film. For example, as I am not well versed with music I found it difficult to place it and did not pay a lot of attention to it. This was obviously picked up by the audience and made me realise that this is key point in the weaknesses of my short film.

Did you understand what was happening in the short horror film "Curiosity"?

This was the most important aspect for me. After watching dozens of other media students films and not understanding what was happening made this key for me in my short film. If my audience could not understand how would the examiner? Luckily a majority had said “Yes” they did understand it. While the second majority “N/A” forgot to fill the question in.

What did you think of the concept of the film?

As the people who viewed my film were at the higher end of my demographic I needed them to like and understand the concept of my film. If my target audience did not have good reviews about the concept, then my film needed a lot of altering. 50% of the viewers who filled out the questionnaire believed it was “Good” which was a successful response, in my opinion.

As I was watching through some of my peers short films and short films on YouTube, I found audio to be a huge issue. So I took a microphone to amplify the sound while recording. However, the people who choose the equipment at my sixth form obviously did not look at reviews of this microphone. I reviewed it and tested it and found it to be worse than my own camcorder, which is a cheap budget camcorder I bought for travelling. I had to get my cast to amplify their voices during the recording process, which they did to their best extent. But my camcorder picks up a lot of wind and background noise so it was slightly difficult to hear them. Luckily, Photoshop allowed a volume increase of up to 200% which made for a clearer audio.

Did you like the fact that the villain in the short film could not be identified?

2

YesNoKind of/Partially

I decided to leave the villain unnamed and un-faced in my short horror film purely because I had no actress to step in for Nazheda. Which, was my own fault as I just created too many characters, in my bid to challenge conventions, and it had taken a bad turn. Thankfully, a majority did enjoy the fact that they could not see the villain as it was different compared to the others that were shown.

What genre did you think the film was? ( Circle one that's applicable)

This is where I felt I let my short film down. Though I now class my short film as a Horror-Thriller, I first intended it to be a Horror short film. Though the option “Thriller” won by one extra vote, I still felt that my film did not succeed and I do wish I could of spent more time on the first draft.

A majority of people did not enjoy the excessive swearing in my short film, which is understandable. However, as I was watching horror films in preparation for my short film, I found that there was a lot of swearing in each one, and though I may of overdone it in a sense, I used what I believed was a modern day convention of a horror film.

YesNoKind of N/A

This was the question where I thought I would get many mixed reviews. However, 85% of people enjoyed the short horror film which I classed as very successful for a short film that I personally disliked. The No and Kind Of did not offend me in any such way as everything has mixed reviews and it’s all based on someone’s preference and you cannot win over the masses.
